LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) --- The Walt Disney Co. has greenlighted the comedy "Raising Helen" with Kate Hudson and Garry Marshall coming aboard to star and direct, respectively, for studio-based Hyde Park Entertainment. The project is scheduled to begin shooting in February.

"Helen" revolves around a young woman (Hudson) who works as an assistant to the head of a modeling agency and is about to be promoted. Her world is turned upside down when her sister and brother-in-law die in a car crash and she is left to care for their three children, ages 9-15.

Hyde Park's David Hoberman and Ashok Amritraj are producing the project, with Todd Lieberman co-producing. "Helen" was originally set up as a pitch by Beth Rigazzio and Patrick Clifton. The script was rewritten by Jack Amile and Michael Begler and polished by Audrey Wells. The project is being overseen at the studio by production executive Karen Glass.

Hudson recently shot Fox Searchlight's "Le Divorce" and is in production on Paramount Pictures' romantic comedy "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days." She also stars in the upcoming Paramount Pictures/Miramax Films feature "Four Feathers."

Marshall is reuniting with Disney, for whom he helmed last summer's hit "The Princess Diaries" and the 1990 blockbuster "Pretty Woman."

Both are repped by CAA.

Hyde Park just wrapped principal photography on the Disney comedy "Bringing Down the Houze," starring Steve Martin and Queen Latifah. It next produces the studio's "Moonlight Mile."
