I visited Magic Kingdom today and saw PhilharMagic as usual. Disney has seemed to fix the complaints people have been saying about the bad conditions the seats were in. I still noticed a couple of seats that had holes in them but nothing as drastic as it was when I last visited it. Good job Disney for finally taking care of this problem.

Great.. I'm also putting in a request for photos of the fixed seats.

Just in time for the press event. :lookaroun

In case anyone was wondering, the seats looked like this not too long ago:

^^I think I know exactly where that photo was taken. Most of the seats did NOT look like that when I saw them. There were a few in one row or two that looked really bad and I was surprised to see they had gotten in that condition within the few months that I had seen the show from one time to the next. Hopefully they're getting around to fixing them. At least the current set of new armrests seem wear-proof. Those are at least the third set since its opening. The first lost their dark wood stain within months, the second set really didn't match, but the third set looks like it will work out well.

Those armrests are new too. They used to be made of wood.

That material is not cheap. It is like the high-end teflon of seat coverings, and we all know sometimes, particularly when used(abused?) inappropriately, teflon still sticks :P

We could've had benches like It's Tough to be a Bug, the Country Bear Jamboree, the Tiki Room... I'm just glad to be sitting on something padded!

Out of the 435ish seats in the theater, it is very easy to focus on a few that were damaged by guests, and focus on the negative.......but what else is expected from some members

That there carpet could use a good shampooing too..lol..but in all seriousness, it's no wonder the seats look like that...if you had hundreds of sitting on you every day, you'd look like that too after a while! LOL :D

Anywho, I trust Disney will fix them soon.

You hit the nail on the head (unintentionally, perhaps).

It is VERY easy to focus on the few damaged by guests, especially when it's several seats right next to each other in one of the newest (and, IMHO, greatest) attractions at WDW. To say it was "bad show" is a pretty big understatement. If they couldn't replace the seats immediately (hopefully this time they ordered some spares so it doesn't take as long next time) they should have been covered or otherwise removed from guest view.

Frankly, we expect more from WDW than the kind of maintainance a local $2 discount theater chain would have. That is obvious vandalism and not something one wants to think about happening in the "happiest place on earth" - it does happen, but that doesn't mean we should paint it red and stick it on the front porch. In terms of Disney, it's pretty shocking they weren't covered with something at least temporarily - a slightly different fabric or even some discrete patches would have been a lot less obvious than the gutted innards of the seat visible in a starkly contrasting color as it is in the picture above.

I'm terribly glad this was fixed - Philharmagic is my favorite theater attraction at WDW and it deserves better. That rip in the screen is bad enough. :( I'm also glad that people are watching out for this sort of thing since it seems Disney isn't always on top of it. I find it kind of interesting that from what I understand the seats had been that way for quite some time, and less than a week after a big 'ol embarassing thread appeared here they were fixed.

I'm sure it was just them sprucing up for the event on the 5th, as it is MK's second newest attraction and many press who will attend won't have seen it yet...but it does make you wonder. ;)

SOME memebers, eh? :D I haven't even been in the theater for several months (unfortunately). I didn't know the problem existed until...

The photo was sent in by our friend thimblekisses and was posted about on several other discussion forums -- the issue seemed somewhat prominent. I hadn't heard of such for the other 3-D Theaters, and thought perhaps it was the material that could have been improved. Also, I couldn't remember any thread describing these problems here on WDWMagic (I might have missed it if there was one), but this thread was created ("Disney has fixed the holes in the PhilharMagic seats") almost as though we all knew they were broken. I don't think any of these people specifically sought out to find bad show, as I never do.

To discuss the potential roots of a problem that has been fixed isn't dwelling on the negative. . . it's not as though I sought them out, much less having the opportunity to go to the MK and see them. It gives us something to look at and say, "hey, that's fixed!, I'm glad they did it!"

So now we've got that behind us, let's stop the negativity on all levels in this thread... I think everyone is now happy they are fixed (as I was when I made my initial post).

And once again: asking for photos of the fixed seats... it's what we can consider "GOOD show."

I'm actually kinda shocked to see the seats in that condition. I really never noticed the conditions of the seats.. I'm usually too excited..waiting for the show to start, and then once it's over..I'm excited to go back into the park.. I have no time to notice the seats..Splash Mountain is calling my NAME!!!!!!!!
