My husband and some other members of our trip are planing on taking their clubs with them on our next WDW trip. Any suggestions or tips on the courses? What are your favorites? TIA

Not to sound at all harsh, my good lady. But this particular thread seems to be more suited in the Trip Planning forum. There's still a lot of traffic in that forum, and it fits in with the rest of the threads. For future reference, please be kind to look for the right forum that fits your thread to save the moderators a little bit of energy. Gracias!

Osprey is the hardest, followed by Eagle. Or is that vice versa? I forget sometimes.

Palm is akin to Eagle/Osprey but more scenic a bit less technical. Same for Magnolia, however it's tees are currently in the process of being pushed back.

LBV is a nice overall course. You really can't go wrong at any of them.

Early morning tee times are a must with how muggy it gets in FL, but you definately pay for that premium. Your clubs can be transportated from course to course for you so you don't have to lug them around inbetween rounds (free!) and you get nifty mickey bag tags.

Their rentals are pretty good, it depends on the course but the standards are like Cobra's and the Deluxe was nice but i'm drawing a blank on the name. Sometimes better than paying the price to bring the clubs in a plane.

I'm assuming if you play a lot you're not too interest in oak trail, but with kids of "not really into playing" signifigant others you can take it more leisurely.

Eagle/Osprey are 8 min tee times and Palm/Mag are 10mins, if i remember correctly. They are very strict about keeping pace or letting folks play-through.

If you go during a non-summer season, you can be more leisurely at a midafternoon time.

Nice driving ranges all around, and i think LBV is the one with the floatie-balls that eventually drift to one side of the lake or the other to be retrieved :) I dunno, I thought it was cute and liked it.

Osprey/Eagle (birds) are near Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge by MK. Palm/Mag/Oak (trees) are all at the military Shades of Green resort (right across from Polynesian and Grand Floridian) while LBV is by Downtown Disney and runs through Saratoga Springs and Old Key West (club house is at Saratoga).

I have played both, Osprey and Eagle and they are both beautiful courses. Challenging in the sense of hazards but very nice. I have a handicap of 8 so I usually golf in the "crest" category but I've also golfed as a "talon" before and those extra yards are a killer on Disney courses. There are some holes just shy of 600 yards!I grew up in a community in Sarasota called Prestancia and we had 2 PGA owned golf courses that are well known. I've golfed them a million times and I would say that the Disney courses are just as nice and very well maintained.

I've played Osprey, Lake Buena Vista, and Magnolia.

OSPREY - I saw above that someone said Osprey is the hardest, but that an opinion rather than fact. Osprey is the longest, but it's also the widest. My game, for example, is long, yet a little wild off the tee, and Osprey was by far the most forgiving of these three. You can also hear a faint train whistle now and then from the MK, just to give you a reminder of where you are.

LBV - My favorite, hands down. I love how it winds near Downtown Disney (with a few pretty cool views of it, especially on hole #3), then through Old Key West (for many holes), and then through the old treehouse villas and Disney Institute. It's more challenging for my game, based on how I play (as mentioned above), and it's of average length.

MAGNOLIA - My least favorite of the three I've played. In all fairness, Shades of Green (the military resort) was undergoing a HUGE rehab when I visited, so that probably played a part in my opinion. It's over near the MK, which is cool, because the sounds of the MK float right over, and I love hearing that stuff. It's a very pretty course, no doubt, it just didn't do anything for me as far as layout goes. I'll also add that it's had a decently extensive rehab since I played it (3 years ago), so it may be different now.

Hope that helps! Have fun!

...and BTW, ignore the "post in the right forum" post above. This is a general discussion forum about WDW, and this topic falls well within those bounds.

the Palm and Magnolia are Joe Lee courses and are where the Funai Tournament are held each year. Osprey Ridge is a Fazio course with huge greens and fairways and my favorite. it's a beautiful FLA track. Eagle Pines is a Pete Dye course. water everywhere, and good tee shots are a must. not to mention, there are also several great courses 15 minutes off of Disney property. and forget about that jerk with his 'post it in the right forum' comment. :)

Hey Zac, what's your handicap? Do you use their guidlines? I'm staying at the OKW for the 1st time in 2 weeks and I also have a tee time for LBV for the 1st time-after reading your post I'm anxiously awaiting that game :D

Ha, uh, my handicap is around an 18. I play around bogey golf, unfortunately. Sometimes I'll pull something better out of the hat, but my best score ever is an 86.

You'll definitely have a fun round over there. 2 years back it started pouring on us on the 16th tee, and we had to wait it out, so I wandered over (only about 50 feet away) to the abandoned Treehouse Villas. All of the furniture and everything is still inside those places, left untouched for years. Sort of a creepy feeling, but very cool to see. There are also other places over there that were part of the Disney Institute, not sure what they're called, but I wandered over to those last year, and some of the front doors were WIDE OPEN! So, I walked right in. The place was filled with leaves and other debris that had blown in, and clearly no one had been near it in quite a while. Amazing how they'll let something worth so much go to crap like that.

Anyway, you'll start seeing these Disney Institute places on the back nine, Old Key west on the front nine, and a special DTD (West Side) treat on hole 3.

Have a great round, and be sure to check back in here when you get back. I'd love to hear what you think.
