Just curious, I always go on eBay from time to time and check out items that Disney or Mouse Surplus sell. But recently the eBay suctions direct from disney dont have any listings? The seller name is disneyauctionears and it was a Disney site. Anyone know what happened to that?

Apparently it has been shut down for now due to poor software glitches and management. I heard it was shut down sept 30th. They had alot of stuff that didnt get shipped to people as well. It may come back after some reworking. Being the crazy disney auction buyer that i am, i was not happy with their site after they moved it. I didnt see much of anything i really wanted.

Thanks for the info. I hear you on them not selling stuff people want. I used to buy all kinds of park used items (thought it was cool that they were actually part of the park once) but they seemed to sell more pins and junk then stuff like that. I check mousesurplus all the time, they sell some good stuff time and again.

Thanks for the info.

No problem, yeah the pins and art they sell is garbage. I only use mousesurplus now. Thats where i bought my magic kingdom flags that were flown over main street station, my magical gatherings banners, my polynesian hotel pardon our appearance sign, and my small world dutch girl hat that i am still waiting for. Ive been to their place to see their monorail too, a bit off my price range:)

You've been there? I been dying to go every trip I take but never get around too it (too busy on the rides) Is it a long tip and hard to get to? And is it worth spending the time. Do they let you "browse" around?

I have done some spending on thier site as well, to only be a millionaire and I would buy most of the stuff they sell.

They are 5 minutes from the orlando airport on Tradeport Drive. If you fleww into OIA early one day you could swing in there. Then when you were done browsing, you would take a left out of Mousesurplus. Tradeport becomes Taft-Vineland once you cross Orange Avenue. Take it to 17-92/Orange Blossom Trail, take a left on 17-92/O.B.T. and go to Osceola Parkway. Take a right and head straight to Disney World. That is the way they go from the park to the warehouse.:D

OOPS, for those who might ask. It's about 15 miles total distance

They actually started their own site instead of using ebay. I used to like the ebay location since you could often find park merchandise cheap. Here's an article on the subject:

Feb 24 2006
February saw the launch of the new Disney Auction web site as Disney moved away from using eBay as their vendor and now have their own privately branded marketplace. The umbrella of DisneyShopping now includes the online Disney Store, Disney Outlet and Disney Auctions.

The look is familiar, not too many changes, and I found the auction web site easier to access and easy to use. One change I would like to see is a few more categories (and sub-categories) to browse through. The only categories at this time are Collectibles, Limited Edition Pins, Artists and New Releases in a bar across the top. I couldn't figure out where to look for stuff, although I was able to find a few items through the search feature.

Stephanie Ayars in Disney Marketing mentioned that this move will enable them do more brand cross-promotions, as well as cross-link to other appropriate places.

She also mentioned it has taken about six months of planning and work to get to this point and go live.
  • Disney Auctions will be using a seven day format and will be more selective about items being offered, striving for the truly unique.
  • One of a kinds such as theme part artifacts, props and costumes will offered once a month -- close to the second week of the month. In March the items will be offered from March 2 through the 9th and the time frame for the special items in April will be the 6th through the 13th. At these auctions look for figures previously used as Disney store fixtures, artifacts, movie props and an occasional "very cool experience".
  • Disney will continue to offer the limited edition products such as cookie jars, pins, and snow globes we've all come to love and look forward to collecting.
REGISTER?
Your eBay Id will obviously no longer will work, but if you have an ID from shopping at the online Disney Store -- that will work. Otherwise just register on the Disney Auction web site before bidding.
PAYMENTS
Disney has not changed the methods of payment. Accepted forms include Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. No Paypal, checks or money orders.

BOTTOM LINE
This is a move that should have happened years ago! Disney typically had hundreds of items being auctioned every week and there is no reason why they shouldn't control it all to their liking. I've been buying Disney stuff online, at auctions and in stores for years and have always been very satisfied with the way they resolve problems. That's not always true with eBay and this move should separate them from any negatives that might have come from being associated with an outside vendor.

Now, the really odd thing is that www.disneyauctions.com used to take you to an actual auction site. But right now, it redirects you back to the disneyshopping.com domain. Odd. The auction page though was mainly pins and collectables - for outrageous prices. I never saw any discontinued park merchandise or clothes or anything.

Yup thats the new site i meant about being shut down due to poor management. it was the new site that has all the bugs and other problems.

Mousesurplus was kind of cool, they have alot of stuff to look at but half of it in the showroom wasnt even for sale.

I am still kinda interested in going, only last question is, is the store real hands off (not like i am going to start playing with the stuff) like if i wanted to act like i was interested in buying the monorail could I go check it out?

Well you can go up to it and there is a platform you could walk up on and look inside it. Most of the stuff you can pick up and look at. Its all on long shelves like a big "surplus" store. I have a pic of the monorail somewhere ill have to find it.
