Disney eatery rates 5 diamonds

Victoria & Albert's at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa once again is the only Central Florida eating place on AAA's annual list of five-diamond restaurants.

It's one of only six restaurants in the state and 55 nationwide to receive the auto club's five-diamond rating, which is reserved for the very best hotels and restaurants.

Nine Florida hotels made the list, none in the Orlando area.


2 elected to IAAPA board

Orlando consultant Jerry Aldrich and Ripley Entertainment chief Bob Masterson were elected to three-year terms on the board of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions.

IAAPA held its annual convention and trade show last week at the Orange County Convention Center's new north-south complex.

Aldrich heads Amusement Industry Consulting, which works with attractions on issues from engineering and maintenance to employee training.

Masterson is president of Orlando-based Ripley Entertainment, which operates or licenses 44 attractions around the world including Ripley's Believe It or Not! museums.

Meanwhile, Discovery Cove tied for second place among attractions its size for best brochure in the trade group's annual marketing awards. Wet 'n Wild placed second in its division for best outdoor advertising and radio commercial.

Discovery Cove and SeaWorld, both owned by Anheuser-Busch, won Brass Ring awards in their divisions for best print advertising,

Orlando No. 1 for holidays

One more sign that the holidays could be good for Central Florida's hospitality industry:

Orlando is the No. 1 destination of people booking trips this season on Hotels.com.

Miami is No. 2, followed by Los Angeles, San Diego and Anaheim, Calif.
