Hello - another post from me! I have the standard DDP, and our family want to have the quick service meal as breakfast and then main table meal in the evening. With the quick service meal at breakfast, is that an entree and a side/Bakery item too? Thanks - this forum is great by the way xx

If you are paying for the dining plan then you will loose money using QS credits for breakfast. A QS breakfast platter is $10 and a drink $3. Each QS credit is costing you around $18 so you loose money at breakfast.
As well as breakfast entrees being cheaper than lunch/dinner you don't get a dessert/side at breakfast making it very poor value on the DDP.

Was going to say something similar.

On the dining plan, it's best to use QS credits at places that typically charge a bit more for lunch (thing BOG) and then use your TS credit for more expensive items as well (like Akershus or Coral Reef Restaurant). When we've used the DDP, we've always eaten at places that we typically wouldn't have if we were paying out of pocket.

It certainly all depends on your family's particular eating preferences, but as others said, the DDP offers the least value at breakfast. As a result, when we're using it (that is, when it's free or we otherwise have a compelling reason to use it, as it's tough for us to save much with it), we use the CS credit for lunch and TS for dinner, and have a quick breakfast in the our room of cereal or granola bars and coffee from the in-room coffeemaker.

If you do plan to use your CS credits for breakfast and TS for dinner, I would suggest skipping lunch, having breakfast a little late (definitely use one of those CS credits for breakfast at Be Our Guest, if you can get an ADR there, especially if it's pre rop-drop so you get first crack at 7DMT!) and scheduling your dinners a little early (e.g., 4:30pm) and making your dinner ADRs at 1-credit buffets and 1-credit all-you-care-to-enjoy family-style venues, so you can get the most bang for your buck by skipping lunch and filling up at dinnertime. (Some good values for 1 credit include Crystal Palace at MK, 'Ohana at the Polynesian, Boma: Flavors of Africa at AKL, Tusker House at AK, Liberty Tree Tavern at MK, Biergarten at Epcot, Akershus at Epcot, Garden Grill at Epcot, etc....)

Sorry one last question - can I just pay for breakfast on my magic band/credit card separately without it being deducted from my credits? thanks and so sorry for the daft questions, I haven't done DDP before.

Yes. When you go through the check out, they will ask you if you're using DP or not. Just say no that you're paying with your CC.

The great thing about DDP is you can use it for any meal you choose. A great Breakfast is Wolfgang puck Express in DS. We often share a Breakfast credit, then share a lunch or supper CS. With the TS, it is plenty of food. We wait til toward the end of the trip to start paying OOP, as it is often more of a struggle trying to use up credits at the end. You can also use your snack credits for a muffin or croissant if you are not big breakfast eaters!

Our family are not big breakfast eaters. My Mom, however must have breakfast. So... we pay out of pocket and end up sharing some of it ( usually have some cash to spend, otherwise Magic Bands do quite well for your credit card).;) I agree with everyone... use your dining plan wisely on table service meals, especially character meals ( even breakfast buffets) and also eat at quick service restaurants that would be a bit more pricey but are still on the dining plan ( we do that for snacks too). Just check out the menus.;)

I plan on paying for breakfast at BoG with a Disney Gift card. It's the only time that we're actually sitting down for breakfast. We usually pack something to eat. We'll get our beverage with our refillable mug and be on our way!

When we are on the plan we will use a snack credit or two for breakfast (a juice or a big pastry) and/or pay OOP for a breakfast sandwich. Then use the QS credit for lunch and the TS credit for dinner. Character breakfasts would be an exception to this of course.
