Disney Dining Plan - Limits??

Hey everyone :)

Just wondering - are there limits on the Disney Dining Plan. IE:
  • Can you order the most expensive starter, main and dessert?
  • Can you order a dessert as part of one persons meal credit even if it says 'ideal for sharing'
  • Can you get platter style meals on one persons credit?
  • Are there any limitations or do you just pick one starter, one main and one dessert from everything on their menus?
Thanks for your time - there are four of us (all adults) and all on the disney dining plan. Look forward to your answers!

Thanks! :)

First off the only dining plan that includes starters (appetizer) is the deluxe one. All others do not include it. For the rest of your questions the answer would typically be yes but it can vary by restaurant. Your server will be able to tell if something is more than one credit. The only things that come to mind that you would have to combine credits on would be something like pizza.

Right, examples of the multiple credit offerings have been put out recently, like the non-individual sized pizzas at Via Napoli and the Parilladas at the new Hacienda. If it says "for 2" then it is most likely going to be more than one credit.
As for the price, as far as I am aware, feel free to order the most expensive thing on the menu and it's covered. Best rule of thumb if you are concerned is to just let your server know you are on the dining plan prior to ordering and they will be happy to let you know if you are doing something that is not covered (like wine, or appetizers, or multiple credit entrees).

1 and 4. As others have said, appetizers no longer are included. As for limitations and ordering expensive dishes, some have some things that aren't included as part of the dining plan, I think, but for the most part, you can pretty much order whatever you want as far as getting a dessert and entree.

2. Yes, I don't know of any desserts that aren't included in the DDP, but even if it's a bigger one, if it's on the dessert menu, it's included in the plan, unless specified otherwise.

3. I really don't know what you mean by this one.

By platter style if you mean the family style platter at Whispering Canyon for example then yes it is one TS credit usless otherwise stated, as others advise ask your server.

i've used the ddp several times and if you just tell the server what plan you're on up front they'll tell you if something isn't covered. for example, at at a dinner at wolfgang pucks (inside downstairs sit down) a few years ago they didn't cover sushi.

I had some of the same questions. Thanks for all the great info.

We are doing the ddp for the first time for our trip in oct.

My husband is still skeptical of how it's going to work. I'm sure we will be fine. Made many reservations, so I think we're set

Also, alcohol is not on the plan but can be purchased during your meal for cash or credit. Some non-alcoholic speciality drinks that come with the flashing cube or Tinker Bell or Hook are also not included but you can still purchase the lights.

Dessert is on the regular plan but if everyone gets a dessert, why would your want to share? You are not going to get the credit back for the dessert. We usually get full by the end of the meal so we would take the dessert back to the room and have as a snack later or in the morning.

Don't forget tips are not included, either.

Enjoy the food and don't forget to make your ADRs 180 days out.

When did Planet Hollywood get on the DDP? Or did I read it wrong? If so great and this follows by another question and I want to know if I read it right.

If I buy an alcoholic drink does my tip become included or do I still need to leave a tip? Reason I ask is I thought I read if you get something out of the DDP that Disney covers your tip.

The tip is not included on the Dinny Dining plan. It was removed a few years ago.

Here's a followup question- since we're discussing tips and DDP.

What is the policy on tipping for buffets on property? I've got several reservations at buffets and being 1st time DDP user- don't know if I need to budget that in or not.

Same as every other restaurant. Tips are not included. They will print precalculated tips on your bill but you may tip any amount that you deem appropriate.
