From the Disney Parks Blog:

"We’re making it blue once again at Disney Parks as we celebrate Disney+ Day on Sept. 8! You’re invited to “plus” up your day with special offerings and fan-favorite fun.

Mornings at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Resort in California will be “plussed” up with early entry pixie dust! Disney+ subscribers and their travel party with valid admission and reservations are once again invited to enter the theme parks at Disneyland Resort* and Walt Disney World Resort 30 minutes before regular park opening.

To capture the memories of this special day, subscribers can also enjoy complimentary Disney PhotoPass photo downloads at select locations at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the Disneyland Resort theme parks that day.

We’re also excited to share that in celebration of Disney+ Day, on Sept. 8 only, guests staying in select Walt Disney World Resort Hotels and Hotels of the Disneyland Resort (with valid admission and a reservation) will have the opportunity to enter 60 minutes before regular park open at any Walt Disney World or Disneyland Resort theme parks.

...

It’s too good to be blue at Disneyland Resort! Be on the lookout for commemorative chalk art at the Downtown Disney District and at the Disneyland Hotel, ways to “plus” your pics as well as fun and festive food and beverage throughout the Disneyland Resort. Strike a starry pose at Hollywood Land with a photo op featuring Mater and Lightning McQueen before vrooming over to Cars Land – inspired by the Disney and Pixar movie “Cars” – to meet the four-wheeled stars themselves! Wishing for more? Guests staying at the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort are invited to stop by Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa for a special movie screening.

While we celebrate all things blue, we’re eating them too! Satisfy your sweet tooth with blue dusted churros – only available at Disneyland Resort theme parks this Disney+ Day on Buena Vista Street and Grizzly Peak at Disney California Adventure park, near Sleeping Beauty Castle and Astro Blasters in Tomorrowland at Disneyland park. At the Downtown Disney District, choose from three true-blue cocktails: an Ocean Breeze at Naples Ristorante E Bar, Blue Hawaiian at Uva Bar & Cafe, and a Tropical Margarita at Tortilla Jo’s."

Honestly it feels a bit light compared to last year, which is disappointing and surprising given this is the run-up to D23 Expo the following day.

They admitted in this month's financial call that Disney+ is still bleeding huge amounts of money, and it won't turn a profit until at least 2024.

The sharp pencil boys have got a countdown calendar to 2024, I'm almost positive.

Um, none of that is new information.

That was stated way back in 2019 when D+ was released. So there is nothing to "admit" here when they've been crystal clear on when D+ would hit profitability, its always been 2024.

All they did during the Q3 earnings call was to reaffirm profitability guidance and give an update on subscriber numbers. They lowed the subscriber goal slightly to the lower end of the original 2024 goal. But with the introduction of the Ad tier later this year the slightly lower sub goal will still meet the profitability goal either on-time or early. So they are actually giving up subscriber growth (their original goal) to get to profitability faster, which in the financial world is a good thing.

Oh.

That helps explain why their budget for this Disney+ Day seems to amount to some sidewalk chalk and a couple gallons of blue food dye. Fun! Instagrammable! Disney+!

I don't know what anyone is expecting for its 2nd year, they didn't do anything substantial last year either for its inaugural year, which amounted basically to some photo ops and some food:

So they've never spent huge amounts of money on this thing.

Disney+ Day is really just a virtual marketing presentation on what's to come to D+ over the next year. It was originally part of the Disney Investor Day, and just split off into its own thing. Its not meant to be some big celebration, so there isn't a huge budget for it and likely never will be.

To me at least it looks to be about the same as last year, if not more, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. With that said it was never, and shouldn’t be, a huge parks thing. September is one of the less visited months at any theme park, and as such there typically isn’t a parks op demand for this kinda event for one day out of that whole month. I’m glad Disney is doing more than just a photopass and some snacks as it seems like that is the bare minimum, and honestly this is better than some of the anniversaries at the parks I’ve been to.

However that might just be mote indicative of the lackluster anniversary celebrations.

Last year they gave away promotional baseball caps and buttons at the entrance for Disney+ Day. I wouldn't expect the caps again, but maybe buttons.

And they had multiple rarer characters out at DL and a few more at DCA:

Hoping for at least that this year, too.

Well, love this.

I think the balloons are a great touch to spread blue throughout the park (doubly so with the team tying balloons to scooters, that's lovely). Also, free buttons and Mickey ear hats as well.

Disney + Day at DLR was a total bust compared to last year which had a bunch of rare characters out at both DL and DCA. I left by midday since nothing special was happening. (I was advised to go to the upcharge Halloween party if I wanted to see extra characters - there were none being added for today's 'event'.)

Balloons were given to the first 500 kids into the park and the hats ran out about an hour and a half after park opening.

Otherwise, as far as I could find, there were just a couple of Disney+ logo photo backdrops in DTD, a Cars on the Road backdrop in the Hollywood Backlot in DCA, and a Pinocchio backdrop on Main Street in DL. Didn't see anything else. Felt like a total waste of a visit. The miserable weather didn't help.

Surprised to hear Disneyland dropped the ball, and Disney Wolrd to improve on last year’s offerings. That’s not saying much but eh one point for Florida I guess
