Disney cuts best perk for CM's

Although I am no longer a CM, I just got off the phone with a current CM and old manager from my Disney Store with some upsetting news.

One of the main perks for working for the Disney company is free entry into the parks. Employees (not just CM's) are given 2 passes for every 6 months that they are employed. These passes are still given. But another perk for working for Disney was that you can use your company ID to get into WDW. Not the case anymore.

Recently a letter was sent out to employees saying you can only gain admission using your ID into WDW if you actually work on the property. The same goes for Disneyland. This was a cut accross the board from "above."

Employees of the company can still use their ID's to receive discounted rooms and merchandise but no longer can they use them as entry into the parks.

This comes as sad news from Cm's and employees working worldwide who can no longer get in. In fact, that is a perk that get people to work for them in the first place. Now it's gone.

What else will they cut next? This makes me very upset.

Perhaps this is because Disney Store CM's are going to be out of work shortly?

this is not just for Disney Store CMs. This is across the board company-wide. ANYONE working for Disney has the same disadvantage now.

I wonder how many Hyperion employees (for example) used this benefit?

in my experience, the only CM's who even used the free admission were Local CM's to the attraction, WDA (Walt Disney Attractions) CM's, and Disney Store. I only saw like 1 ABC ID ever there...

uhhh...does that go for the college program too?

From my understanding, CM can get into their local parks. Disney Store can no longer get into WDW or DL. WDW CM (including CPs) can still get into WDW. DL in DL and DCA.

People will argue saying that Disney is not loosing money by doing this. That's true, they are not loosing money. The plan is to get these CMs to start paying for entry now and put more of their low-salery back into the company.

Well, it's going to backfire now because many DisneyStore CMs are not happy and are planning to leave. This perk was the only thing keeping a lot of them there. It certainly wasn't the pay or lower discount than other employees in the company. (That's right! You can work for WDW, DL or ABC and get 35% from the first day you are hired. A Disney Store CM only gets 20% until their 3rd year! This was never fair for these dedicated employees working long hours for little pay selling Disney Merchandise and park tickets.)

An Eisner plan indeed.

This is what,... thread 3 on this subject now :)

I don't think the plan was to save money, I think it was just to get the stores ready to be sold.

As a CM at TDS, I think this sucks. I work very hard in my store, as do the rest of the CMs. I personally spend a fortune every time I go down there. I truly feel this is unfair, to take away benefits just because we may close. People I work with, who have trips planned, have already said they will find other things to do in Orlando instead of going into the parks. It's like Disney is actually encouriging(sp) us to spend our money elsewhere.
