So i was jsut watching nickelodeon and there was a commercial advertsing disney channel... This isin't the first time I've seen this either. Why would this happen? Could they be linked somehow?

Nick sells ad time, Disney buys it there just like any other network. Kids watch Nick and go to WDW and DL and buy Disney stuff so hit them where it does the most good.
