So I just completed my application and scheduled my phone interview for this wednesday (The woman I talked to on the phone even said that Disney sounded like a perfect fit for me haha). The roles I have checked off on the list are..
In order of preference
Character Performer.

  • I'm a theatre major so this is of course my first choice and I plan on attending the Chicago auditions in March. I'll attach my headshots for opinions on if I have a shot/what character I can play. I've always been told I would be a Snow White if anything.
Costuming

  • I have quite a lot of sewing experience and have worked as a dresser on shows where I had to do all of the same responsibilities listed.
Attractions
Merchandise
Housekeeping
Recreation
Hospitality

I'm 5'6" and around 140 pounds. Any idea what the normal size of those costumes are? I also have one tattoo on my shoulder that's easily covered by anything with sleeves.

Also any tips for the phone interview would be GREATLY appreciated!

You'll most likely get furry characters. I don't think there are many CP face characters, but I'm not sure as I didn't really deal with face characters a whole lot. 5'6" is Pluto height, so you can definitely do furry.

Costuming, however, is awesome. Seriously, I think it's one of the best gigs you can get. You're backstage 95% of the time (the only time you ever deal with guests are if you work parades) and you're inside 90% of the time. The only downside is that costuming has the earliest shifts you can get. The early shift at Animal Kingdom characters was 4:30AM. If you're not a morning person, be warned. And just FYI, there's no sewing or mending involved in costuming. A good portion of costuming is doing laundry, depending on where you work (ops costuming has no laundry, character, parade and show costuming is about 50% laundry). If you're not doing laundry then you're putting together costumes, running the checkout system, hanging costumes or helping dress performers. It's not nearly as glamorous as it's made out to be, but I liked it. Of course, I was one of the weird CPs who actually liked workings Ops costuming when most CPs dreaded it.

I also worked in costuming, at Epcot & DHS. The earliest shifts there are 6am, with the latest ones lasting till between 9pm & 2am, depending on where you work. I dreaded working ops, but there were days I actually looked forward to it, when I wanted a break from the craziness at Block Party or Fantasmic. The most sewing I did was at Fantasmic, when a snap or something small needed to be repaired for the shows that night. Epcot & DHS ops do have some laundry done there, mostly accessories, but studops ops takes care of washing the anubis robes for GMR & the blue rain suits for backlot tour.

I applied for the Fall Advantage Program & costuming is my top pick for the role I want.

Good luck with you audition. If you have any questions about costuming, I'd be happy to try to answer them.
