Disney College Program for a IT Major

Hello everyone. I've been researching about the college program for sometime now, trying to figure out if or if not I should take it. The thing is, my major is Information Technology, and I am not sure if there is anything that would help me out in that field or that I would apply it to. If anyone got any hints, facts, or any information on this, please tell me. I am interested in the college program itself, though I would like to know if there is anything I can do with Information Technology there.

The Disney college program really has nothing to do with your major. Unless maybe your major is hospitality or in some other customer service field and even then it's a stretch. It is a great program if your looking for something fun to do and meet some new people.

It could of course lead you to possibilities with Disney in the IT field should you choose to stay and pursue that afterwards. Although I would do a little research first just to make sure your aware of the situation, I (have no knowledge) but have heard from some that the pay at Disney isn't very good comparatively in the professional fields.

Thanks for the replies. Honestly, I am probably still going despite not having anything with Information Technology. One, I could use it to improve my people skills and be able to interact with people in general better. Two, well, I can still learn IT from online courses. Three, by doing this, I may have better chances at getting a job, since the person looking at my resume would see this and know that I have skill with working with people.

It would be a nice experience either way.

I went to Northeastern, which is the largest Co-op program in the country (Co-ops are paid internships for 6 months), and the people who did theirs at WDW were paid about minimum wage and forced to pay to live on disney's campus which meant they came away w/ $0 saved. I think most CM jobs are selling food, letting people on rides, etc. Nothing really involved w/ the operation or business of the parks. Unless you are a theatre/visual arts major and get a job working in a show, it doesn't make sense to do.

If you are a MIS, or Comp Sci major I would recommend getting a job in your field. As a finance major I made $15/hr working for large firms in Boston...and it looks great on your resume vs something unrelated at a theme park.

Actually, that's not entirely true. I went through the program and although you don't make near as much as many internships I still managed to come away with approximately $1500 after the semester. The big question you have to ask yourself is, "Do you want to work for Disney in the long run?" Although the college program is all entry level positions, it is BY FAR the easiest way to get yourself in the door with the Disney company. Disney hires most (I've heard as much as 80%) of their managers from inside the company many of which are/were CP interns. Disney offers many professional internships in IT some of which are only open to those that have already completed the CP. Here's the link for more information on them. (http://profinterns.disneycareers.co...gy-digital/technology-information-technology/)

So if working for the Disney company is something you're interested in then I say it is a great idea to do the CP, get your foot in the door and network. You will learn a lot about how to deal with people, how to market yourself and how to be a better business person so it won't be something that you're wasting your time doing. That being said, if your aspirations lie somewhere beyond Disney, another option may be better suited for you to gain more "real world" experience and receive a higher pay rate.

Hope that helped you make your decision!

I have worked in IT since the 80s. Any experience you get handling unhappy customers will transfer well to a corporate IT position. As you run across these situations, take notes afterward of what happened, how you handled it, and what you learned from it. This will provide you with plenty of material for future interviews.

I agree. IT is a service field where you deal with all levels of employment. Customer Service is key.
