This wasn’t great but it was SOMETHING. With the closure of this, the Avatar version, and the D-Tech in Tomorrowland, it’s pretty clear Disney’s not interested in offering unique retail experiences even with an immediate and demonstrable ROI.

Why would any retail store offer anything that didn't have any demonstrable ROI?

The Magic Kingdom used to have a number of stores that either operated at a loss, or offered specialty items for display

To this day there's still things like the all crystal replica of Cinderella Castle on Main Street for so many thousands of dollars that probably doesn't sell that often, if ever.

I'm not saying the Tron identity program is the same kind of thing, but there is a long precedent of Disney theme parks having items if not whole stores that are there primarily to be part of the experience rather than generate a high margin of sales

But it still follows the principle of having something primarily for show vs for sale

Crystal Arts knows everyone will stop to look at it, take pictures, and be further incentivized to go into the store and browse

Understood, was just providing additional context. When I was a contractor for Disney in 2007-2008 they were one of the stores I helped out with (POS terminals) and I was friends with several people that worked there. They also have the Crystal shops in the Mexico and Germany pavilions at EPCOT and several of the global parks.

IIRC when I asked the CM's back then, they said they'd sell 1-2 of those Cinderella Castles per year
