Just had to share this letter I read from today's Sunday NYTimes travel letters section. My husbands' only comment was "Disney is not for amateur vacationers." It's kind of sad, $8000 is a lot of money! Notice they never mention the FASTPASS.
To the Editor: Our family of eight (ages 2 to 72) spent five miserable days during the Christmas holiday at the Disney World Theme parks and a Disney resort, The Polynesian.
We planned carefully and spent more than $8000. The crowds were beyond our expectationsand Disney was not able to serve the masses. In all, we saw one show (because we were willing to stand) and one parade (by waiting until 10pm). We caught a few rides by getting the older children up before dawn to be the first in line and keeping the babies up after 10pm to be the last in line.
While our children and grandchildren waited hours in line, we could not find a place to sit down, as all seats, ledges and even garbage cans were occupied by people like us.
The one thing that almost works is priority seating. Exceprt for Christmas night at our Disney resort, when we waited for two hours, all other food reservations were honored
From a family in Staten Is. NY
The response from Disney World is as follows:
That this family had a disappointing time is regrettable. CHristmas-New Year's is easily one of the busiests weeks at WDW. We do all that we can to manage crowds and provide extra shows during this time, including hiring extra workers and entertainers. We also extend our park hours. For instance, Magic Kingdom, which can close as early as 6pm, remains open until about midnight during that holiday period.
