Disney Characters Help Light Up Chinese Garden’s Lantern Festival
SINGAPORE (Channel NewsAsia) -- East will meet West at this year's Mid-Autumn celebrations when Disney characters help light up the Lantern Festival at the Chinese Garden. The festival will see huge lanterns in the shape of Disney characters brightening the night. Themed "Lantern Fun-tasy", it is a far cry from festivals of the past which traditionally feature Chinese legends and mythology. Lanterns of Mickey, Minnie, and Donald will bring Disneyland to this year's Lantern Festival. Colonel (Retired) Lim Yeow Pheng, General Manager, Jurong Gardens, said: "From public opinion and feedback, they want to see something different. Their main comments is that every time they go back to the Chinese Garden, they see the same type of lanterns so that is why we've brought in the Disney characters." With Mickey, Minnie and all the favourite Disney characters on display, visitors can expect magical nights at the Chinese Garden. Other stations will feature Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and there will also be an American Indian camp featuring Pocahontas and her friends. Visi-tors will also see an 8-metre tall Mickey Mouse in Chinese regalia. There will also be a Princess pavilion, where you will find Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and the rest of the Disney cartoon heroines. In all there will be more than one thousand lanterns dotting the Garden. The Mid-Autumn Festival will be on from 30th August to 22nd September. On weekdays, adult tickets cost $8 while children pay $4. But on weekends it is $12 for adults and $6 for children.
