Guests may soon be seeing more alcohol available at Disney California Adventure. California has loosened the restrictions on the park's liquor license, allowing them to set up temporary kiosks at events without having to get permission each time from the Alcoholic Beverage Control. Disneyland spokeswoman Suzi Brown says the new license will give the resort options when holding festivals or events. "It just provides us with more flexibility. It allows us to be able to do things as opportunities arise." This license also gives Disney permission to add permanent bars to the area, as long as they submit an updated map of the park to the state.

Disney California Adventure currently offers alcohol in several of their restaurants. At Disneyland Park, alcohol is only available at Club 33 and private events.

Kiosk Bars for Glow Fest

We were just there last week. This licence was put to, what appears to have been, very profitable use.

They have the Hollywood Pictures Backlot street set up with neon collored decorations, and in the evenings they set up 2 or 3 bars in the middle of the street, selling specialty drinks in light-up cups. For about $11.50 each. There's also beer on draft ($7 something). They have go-go dancers on raised stages, and other such entertainment, with techo-music blaring.

As un-Disney as it all was, I have to admit the place was hopping. And those kiosks were raking it in.

That's Glow Fest, the sleeper hit of the Summer of 2010.

I went with friends on Saturday night to have a drink, and we had a lot of fun. The place was packed, and the bars and food truck were doing brisk business. I had the beef gyro from the food truck and it was the best fast food I've had in a Disney theme park, ever. Of course, it's not a Disney truck and it's run by the The Green Truck catering from LA, go figure! :D

Glow Fest seems to take diehard Disney fans by surprise, and upsets some of them. But the vast majority of visitors to DCA who can't recite Walt's opening day speech from 1955 by heart really seem to enjoy it.
