Disney Boardwalk Inn

Well, we've officially switched from POR to Boardwalk because of a free upgrade. There's 5 of us, but they gave us two rooms with 2 queen beds apiece and day beds (though I would like to confirm that, it would be sweet that everyone would have their own bed!)

Any tips for staying at Boardwalk (we've never been before, we've actually only stayed at a Deluxe once, last year at Contemproary, but we've stayed at Moderates/Values exclusively for the past 20 years)?

From looking into it very briefly...what's the best option for breakfast? And by "best", keep in mind, we're a food court family for breakfast. We're looking for the quick service places with breakfast sandwiches, pancakes, hash browns, etc. Doesn't look like Boardwalk has anything specifically RIGHT there, but there is something within walking distance?

Also, I believe that we were given a "standard view". Believe that comes with a private balcony? Anything that we can ask for to try to secure the best possible view?

Any other tips, as far as the water shuttle vs. walking will be very much appreciated!

When it comes to Quick Service locations for breakfast there is the Boardwalk Bakery which is located outside along the Boardwalk and the Belle Vue Lounge, which is located in the lobby just before the elevators on the Inn side. Here are links to their menus so you can see what they have availabe.

The majority of the Boardwalk Inn rooms come with a balcony and I think there are only 5 without one, so chances are getting one won't be a problem.

As for talking the Boats or walking to Epcot and Hollywood Studios, this is my opinion. When going to Epcot it's a 5 - 10 minute walk depending on your speed. However when taking the Boat Epcot is the next stop, so if it's already at the dock it would be even faster. As for Hollywood Studios I say it's faster to walk there because the Boat will then stop at the YC/BC and Swan/Dolphin before it arrives at Hollywood Studios.

We're actually eating dinner at a restaurant at Yacht Club.

That's a pretty easy walk, correct?

Also, we are going to have at least one pool day, anyway. I've heard the Beach/Yacht Club has a pretty good pool area too?

Also, we will be going over New Years weekend. Last year, it was very warm and we were able to swim whenever, but when it's a little colder, is there still usually people in the pools and such?

Yes it's a very easy walk to the Yacht Club, Beach Club, Swan & Dolphin.

As for Stormalong Bay it's only reserved for guests staying at the Yacht Club/Beach Club/Beach Club Villas and the Cast Members check your KTTW cards at their entrances, along with giving wristbands. So because you are staying at the Boardwalk Inn you won't be allowed to swim at Stormalong Bay.

Stormalong Bay (i.e. the pool at the Y&BC) is strictly limited to guests staying at those resorts. You will not be allowed into that pool unless you are staying at one of those two resorts.

Is it really set up in such a way to prevent guests from other resorts from going into the pools?

In my experience, Disney resorts pool areas are pretty open (with no real way of verifying whether someone is actually staying there or not)

Wow, I've never heard of anything like this at a Disney resort!

Stormalong Bay is the only resort pool at WDW where access is closely monitored. You will not be able to get unless you are staying at the Y&BC. Enjoy the pool at the Boardwalk.

Wow, that is a bit of a bummer. Though I'm sure that's because it does look cool.

Still, the Boardwalk pool looks great too, so no big loss!

To answer your question about food. There is a pizza window near the Boardwalk bakery. The pizza was very good and if you are on the dining plan, a whole pizza is 2 QS credits. We did this while were were there last week and it was very good and a good deal. If you want snacks/candy/Ice Cream... be sure to check out SeaShore sweets. Again on the dining plan, most things in there are a snack credit and are very good.

Good to hear that there's a pizza place as Disney pizza is one of our favorites (particularly for late-night).

But upon looking at it...is there a traditional quick-service/food court style place anywhere in the area? Sort of like what they have at the Moderate/Values, Contempo Cafe (at Contemporary), that sort of thing?

Doesn't necessarily have to be at the Boardwalk, we're willing to walk, if there's something like that at Beach/Yacht Club.

Relax, you will love this resort, on a free upgrade? Are you kidding me? Just the locaion is as convienent as you can get. The pool is really nice. There is always someone in the pool no matter what the weather. Some crazy kid will be in there no matter what the temp. The resort is beautiful, at night even more so. You will find yourself staying around the resort mosre often then at other resorts you might have stayed at. Nothing like a late night stroll around the boardwalk. I am sure there will be entertainment given it will be NY eve. Also if I am not mistaken Jelly Rolls has a great New Years eve party. As far as the food selections are concerned...no they dont have a food court per se' like other resorts, but if you follow the tips as others have suggested you will be fine.

You cant go wrong with this resort, once you have stayed there you will want to revisit it again.

Actually I have always wondered about where to just get a cup of coffee in the am, sounds like they have it set up on or near the lobby in the am. What if you just want a sandwich by the pool? We walked through BW last year on our way to Cape May and my husband loved it.

There's a pool bar at the Boardwalk (Leaping Horse Libations): http://allears.net/menu/menu_lhl.htm ...sandwiches, drinks, etc.

As for coffee, you can either go to the Belle Vue Lounge (inside the hotel) or out onto the Boardwalk to get coffee at the Boardwalk Bakery or at Boardwalk Joe's, which is a small location near the Boardwalk Bakery.

I always thought the same thing until I was lapped by a boat. It happened by the time we reached the overpass when walking, the same boat that was at the dock when we left beat us to HS. Still, I'd rather walk. Can't wait to see Tim at the Bellevue in less than three weeks!
