Disney Board Keeping Eisner to Fight Off Comcast

Many of you are wondering why the board is keeping Michael Eisner right now. Well, here is the reason from the Wall Street Journal:

"People close to Disney say the board wants to keep Mr. Eisner around for now because it doesn't want to destabilize the company at the moment when it faces an unsolicited takeover offer by cable company Comcast Corp. (NasdaqNM:CMCSA - News) ."

So,they are not keeping Michael around just to give a big middle finger to all us Disney freaks. They are doing what they see in their minds as the right thing for now to fight off Comcast. When Comcast is no longer a threat, then perhaps they will bring in someone new. But don't expect them to publicly announce that as their plan in the meantime.

This is exactly what I said last night concerning the need to keep him around until a proper succession plan can be developed. Throwing him out on the street with Disney's lack of a realisitic and usable succession plan would not be the good thing, especially with the looming ComCast bid/takeover. As I said last night, everyone just has to be patient....the wheels of change are turning. Nobody, under these circumstances, should have expected Eisner to resign last night, today, next week or even next month. Realistically, I see him out by the end of the year....enough time to develop and solidify a succession plan.
