Disney Blindness

OK I am fed up with Disney being SO BL00DY BLIND

I usually keep off the Imagineering column but now I want my opinions to be heard by other people. Disney has problems with it’s theme parks. Granted all large companies (Disney larger than most) have a lot to think about BUT the fixes for some of them are right under there noses.

Prime example, small problem we took away a good ride (20k leagues under the Sea at MK) and put in a meet and greet area, we have building problems so can’t build a mountain on top of a lake, lets just leave it

Why not put in Aquatopia, you can leave the lake so the structure will be safe, it is relatively cheap (I’m guessing) and if you change the pods to shells it can link in with Ariel playground next door.

See solved

And there are hundred like it.

2 major problems California Adventure and Disneyland Resort Paris.

Disneyland Resort Paris

Possibly our best theme park is attracting visitors but they are not using the resort as a holiday destination but more as a weekend break.

Solution give them too much to do at one time, the second theme park was a great idea now add an indoor water park and miniature golf and the place is beginning to look like a fully enclosed resort that offers WIDE range of activities not just theme parks.

WDS is not as big as people expect and they finish in there within one day

TOT construction (well done) but the park needs more. Why not add the again relatively cheap It’s Tough to be a Bug, yes I thought this was a stupid idea that would tackify the park but if they put it in the Animation Courtyard between the Art of Animation and Flying Carpets, roughly where Mickey’s trailer is and set it back a bit towards the costume hut they have a perfect solution. The ride can be put in a building that is made to look like huge blades of grass but cartoony, like the Flying Carpets. Also the set back approach provides another place for rides to be added, although they would have to be small as Fronteirland is very near by. How about a cinema showing Disney films all day. Cheap and they know they can do it as it is in every other resort on Main St. but not in Paris so they can out it into their studios.

They are the quick and easy immediate solutions then there are hundreds of ways of improving that resort (Inidana Jones (DL), Great Movie Ride, add TDS’s Port Discovery to Discoveryland, Toon town, Beauty and the Beast Tiki Show etc.)

California Adventure

We built a park that sucks and nobody likes, we are losing money and it tackifies the original resort.

The solution is unfortunately not as easy as the blindingly obvious European problem. The answer give up, it is as simple as that. They almost gave up in Paris but it was obvious to everyone that it had potential. Unfortunately even the die hard fans of their theme parks (us – hooray) don’t like it. Know before you start saying that would ruin Disney’s image, that would tackify the resort even more and the most important one, do you have any idea on how much that would cost? I will answer them SHUT UP AND LISTEN (yes I know how your minds work I have been on this forum for ages)
I am not saying that Disney should shut down all the rides, shops etc. sack the staff and sell of the park in pieces to people on eBay who have nothing better to spend their money on. Take away the California theme and go back to Disney’s America. This fixes the tackiness problem in one fell swoop. It’s simple, leave Paradise Pier bee. Well fix the small problems like lack of detail in the theming. Turn the Soarin’ Over California area the war airbase, see old concept art. The Grizzly River Rapids could be themed more towards the Northern Mounatins. Here is the main costly bit turn the Farm area into a New England fishing, canning etc. town and the rest into an early settlers camp. Expand the camp. Add a colonial area. And finally change the Hollywood part into Manhatten themimg also Luminaria could be changed to fit in with this areas concept picture. The frontier and small town middle America are in Disneyland so no need for them and there you have it. Not all that easy I here you say. Yes when I thought of this I was thinking slightly superficially (not too superficial as tear down the lot). A lot of the rides could stay, in fact all of Paradise Pier. Soarin’ one of the main attractions could stay. It’s tough to be a bug will be very out of place so see above, send it to Paris. TOT can stay. Muppets would work in a broadway musc hall. Superstar Limo may need to go for a better ride e.g. New York gangs maybe (another problem fixed). Gut the tortilla and bread making buildings, re-theme but not that much is needed and add like a pilgrim fathers story. You see a lot of it is simple changing. One of the biggest costs would be merchandising. Halt production immediately then announce to the world as a big publicity do the “First time Disney has ever re-vamped a whole park”. There goes the bad word about Disney also fans and other people looking to get a few buck will buy up a lot of the merchandise very quickly as it is such a big thing. Also re-print some of the stuff like add “Goodbye” for “Goodbye California Adventure” etc. If done correctly they can turn the whole change that could be negative into one of the biggest publicity events ever. Seriously can you imagine Disney getting rid of a park, I would be there immediately and it would definitely change the Mouse’s increasing fuddy duddy, posterity image. The useless things can be sold off to get back part of the loss and seriously the companies gain would be phenomenal.

What do ya think?

(Sorry if I offend the way I write tends to put across my feelings quite bluntly and this does not please some people)
