A year and a half!!! I guess we can forget about it ever being converted to a dark ride in the near future.

I'm usually pretty quick to defend Disney's construction time lines, but this came as a surprise to me. I was thinking early 2013 at the latest. Sure better be an impressive meet and greet.

Good news is that it sounds like it'll be elaborately themed and a high-quality meet n greet. Bad news is that this sounds awfully darned permanent - or at least, really long-term temporary.

You have to see the timeline from a business perspective. They're purposely scheduling these things out in intervals to keep people coming back:

• Early 2012: Opening of first phase of StoryBook Circus
• Summer 2012: The rest of Storybook Circus
• Late Fall 2012: TLM and BatB
• First two quarters of 2013: Nothing needed (TLM and BatB will be the draw).
• Late Fall/early Winter 2013: Princess Fairytale Hall
• Early 2014: SWMT

I think what is surprising people is not the opening date of FH on its own, but its opening date in comparison to the closing date of SWSA. Your point makes perfect sense in terms of scheduling things out, but if you wanted FH to open in November 2013, is it really necessary to close SWSA May 31, 2012? That does seem like a awfully long time to gut a dark ride and transform the space into FH.

We also have no idea what structurally might have to be done in that building that we cannot see.

They might also be closing SWSA early to recycle the AA figures for the Mine Train, but that dose seem like a long time to build a meet and greet

Holy crap, that's a long time.

And, what happens to the meet-and-greet location on Main Street once this opens? If this is the "new home" of the princesses, will they do other characters instead?

Indeed. It might very well be that there's more that needs to be done than we can imagine. Might also be that SWSA has been held together with sum and bailing wire long enough and they just want to close it already to be done with the maitenance.

Could be this, also.

In any event, surprising to me that they'd need 18 months for this transformation.

I'm hoping the current princess area becomes the "random room" where you never know who you're going to see until you get there.

No kidding.

Universal will have the next Potter land phase open before Disney can even open a meet-and-greet. The powers-that-be in Orlando sure know how to take their time and produce very little, notwithstanding huge budgets.

The Princess Hall deal was announced well over a year ago Many of the interior elements could already be finished and waiting for installation. This project should be ready to open for Christmas this year.
