what is disney
doing to themselves

After the 'sale' of the Disney Paris Studio, the new word is that Disney Burbank Studio will only produce 3D/CGI films after "Sweating Bullets". According with the Disney management (aka Thomas Schumacher), the new home of Disney traditional animated features will be the Orlando facility at Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park (Walt Disney World) with the projects "Bears" (2004) and "The Peoples" (2005). Of course, traditional features can return to Burbank, but there are no plans for the the next years. An insider told to Animagic that Disney will reduce the number of animators to only 24! Many great talented people will lost their jobs. 13 from the 24 remaining animators will work on the upcoming CGI film "Chicken Little", directed by Mark Dindall (left) and produced by Randy Fullmer (both from "The Emperor's New Groove"). The other 11 artists will work in other projects like "The Snow Queen". In the other news, Clean-up crew will be reduced from 90 to only 6 until May 2003. "Treasure Planet" and "Sweating Bullets" are sheduled to end productions in September/2002.

As a digital animator (in Florida even)..this is of course good news to me ;)

We actually saw this coming for over a year now..which is why no one really was eager to go work for the mouse out in cali the past year or so...and the amount of animators are just the LEAD animators..trust me..Disney has a small army of tweeners who will always have those crummy jobs..disney does things at 72 frames a second (film standard is 24...video is 30)...so thats a LOT of drawings..realistically they only need 12-20 KEY animators (the guys who draw the major movments)..but the 200 or so tweeners are the ones Disney keeps on forever ;)

How would you go about applying for a disney animator position? or anything to do with animation or imagination...I would like to know because that is the general direction that I want to go in after schooling, I want to be an animator of some sort.

oooo..soemthing i can help with...

Basically...apply at Disney Animation...if you h ave a strong enough demo reel..you get a "good" job as a key animator...if you are "ok"..you get a job as a tweener...trust me..tweening jobs are EASY to get...so if you dont mind drawing what seems like the "same" drawing over and over....you are set ;)
