Disney Android apps

Nothing really new, but I enjoy the free undercover tourest app, and another one that is free one is the wdw park hours app. It show park hours up to 6 months out. Everything else is redundant so far.

There is a poster on another forum that actually made the coolest iPhone app I have ever seen for Disney planning. It is actually pretty stunning in detail and design. Even the pages look very Disney artsy. It's rather amazing. I wish he would have made it for Android too since I absolutely loath iPhone. I plan on starting one pretty soon myself but I am also taking full time college classes, working full time, and I have a wife and two kids. :( Not much time. But I will try.

Poke around (sorry I don't have the link) for the Disney App, even if you don't have a verizon phone. Since the app is now free, it is not stealing if you Google it and find it.

Works great on any android phone. I prefer Lines. Gives me the info I want without all the BS, it is very light on data use, no pictures, etc, so it is fast to load, does not take much battery (important when you are in a park all day and away from your charger!).

I would love to have 1 with restaurant menu's and some other info, but nothing I have found has it. You have to be a member of touring plans to get the lines data... but I think that is only for more than 10 days out. Same day stuff I think is free to everyone. (My battery died on my phone, I will check this detail and get back to you)

But it only works on a Verizon phone. Something about the makeup of the app and how the information is updated to the app.

I like Lines too. And as for the battery issue, go to ebay and buy a couple of extras and the chargers to use on them. I bought three spare batteries and three chargers for my Infuse and I never have to worry about being stranded without a working phone. :)

I have to correct myself. I just downloaded the app and sideloaded it to my Infuse. I have ATT and this app seems to work perfect. Sorry about the previous post! :( Good call boufa!:sohappy:

I was just about to hit the quote..reply button when I saw your correction fo yourself. Personally, at least from home, I am not a fan of the official app. I just want wait times (and menus, but that aint happening on any app).

The Official app seem to detailed, it pulls gps data, and it give you wait times, in order of distance to the location, etc. This is the kind of place where a paper map is irreplaceable. I just want a quick peek to give me a frame of reference, I don't need walking directions to my attraction. And I don't know what it will be like in the park, but the wait times are very general on the official app, where as lines gives you theoretical times based on models, AND user reported times.

Edit: I just pulled up lines and checked test track and soarin' Both wait times were within 2 minutes of the theoretical estimates, and the FP return time was spot on. My biggest issue is the last time I was at Epcot, we stopped touring World Showcase to go to Test Track and found it closed. We wasted nearly an hour walking to the ride, found it closed, got fast passes just in case it re-opened (it did not) and then walking back to the back of world showcase. This kind of on the ground in park user reporting of wait times I am hoping to prevent this kind of thing.

According to Mousesavers the Undercover Tourist app for the iPhone gives menus and pricing. However (and I feel ripped off too) the Androis app does not show menus.

Also, I found that Mousewait 1.0 (Florida) gives menus too although all it is doing is taking you straight to the restaurant menu page for All Ears. Mousewait 2.0 (California) does the same thing.

What we REALLY need is a WDWMAGIC app. hint, hint...;)

wdwmagic I believe has only an iphone app. it would be nice to extended to all droids.

Its sad when you go to get a product for your phone all you can find is products for the iphone LOL.

So true. :) Especially since Android smokes iPhone. My co-worker loves her iPhone 4 and I have messed with it a bit but I much much much more prefer my Infuse. It's faster, slimmer, clearer, and it does more. The Android market is vastly overtaking the iPhone market every day. My college even has an iPhone app and has made the comment that they made a mistake by not doing an Android app before the iPhone because of that.

The iphone is over glorified. As a Mac user I thought it would be easier to have an iphone but my Motorola Droid 2 is pretty compatible with mac. It would be an issue in the old days. Disney really should start making android apps as well as other companies. I like how Android has customizable desktops and widgets where the Iphone screens are just icons. I wish there was a Disney widget/app for androids with, times, shows and line waits and a map. Not to mention all the money Disney would save on printing out all those maps and schedules every day.

Nope... don't eliminate the paper maps. I really like them. There are times when flipping open a piece of paper is faster than getting out your phone and turning it on, looking etc.

As for iphone... the purposely made it uncustomizable. With an apple product you do exactly what they want you to do, and you are fine. Want to think for yourself and its a headache. I don't have to jailbreak my phone.

But to stay on topic... keep the paper, but make the apps for dynamic things like wait times, menus, showtimes, etc.

The reason for fewer Android apps is due to the fact that there are no controls, standards, and too much fragmentation. There are almost no 2 android devices that are identical. You can take 2 of the same exact phones off a shelf and there will be differences in the OS. This will be the downfall of Android until Google requires all devices to be at the same OS level.

All this from an android fanatic.

Which is why my college is having such a hard time getting an Android device out. :( But it is a workable problem.

You can't require them all to be the same OS level unless you also require the hardware to be at the same level. Newer OS features usually require hardware upgrades.

I believe the flexibility of the Android OS is its strength, not its downfall. My wife and I have 2 different make and model android phones, we ARE running the same Android OS level - but her phone looks and acts different than mine due to the manufacturers user interface level customizations.

It can be it's strength until you try to program an app for it. :) That's when you run into issues. But it can be done. I agree with the other poster that said that iPhone makes you do what they want you to do. I hate iPhones for that reason and will not allow an "i"anything into my house. I prefer being able to do what I want to do with my phone and the Linux OSs in the Android phones are awesome for that. I can customize my phone how I want to, when I want to. :)
