Has disney ever thought about building a private airport on the property? It would attract more visitors and would boost tourism?? Does anyone know????????????????????????

I think there is a STOL (Short Take Off & Landing) landing strip at WDW near the MK for private use and for when WDW was first gettin built, it looks like it on an ariel view.

However, them owning their own airport would be rediculous. It would a) take up a lot of space. b) would spoil the show (since when did a cessna appear in FrontierLand?) c) Very expensive, not all the PAX on aircraft that land in Orlando want to go to WDW. d) safety risks and I'm sure there are plenty of other reasons.

Not to mention the noise. I live about 20 miles from MSP (Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport) and every five minutes there is a plane (I hear one right now). The reason you don't hear many planes at WDW is because there aren't many reasons planes would be flying over it (It is a peninsula).

Anyway, so imagine if an airport were only five miles away?

In Disney World's origional plans Walt planned to have an airport below the industrial center planned for the Florida Project. See my photo album to see a layout of it all. The overall property would have consisted of Magic Kingdom, where it is (without Seven Seas Lagoon), convention facilities (close to where FW is), a campground next to convention facilities, E.P.C.O.T., with a swamp ride west of there, An industrial center, and finally at the south end of the property would be an airport. However, the way Walt wanted the airport to be set up would allow a traffic pattern that would fly in from west to east. Thus, the theme park (Magic Kingdom) would have not really been affected all too much.

Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions! :animwink:

Yeah, ur right, that runway is still there but not being used anymore that I know of. It use to have an FAA identifier for it but I have not been able to find it in years. I think the strip is somewhere over near WL or FWC. There's one road that u can drive on and see the strip.

every 5 minutes??? Its more like every 10 seconds!!! MSP was probally one of the most busy airports I have ever been to! I was sick of seeing the Red Northwest planes by the time I took off

I dont think it would be economical for Disney to build an airport. First they have to get quite a few permits, then file with the FAA, Battle local residents over the increased traffic etc, build it, and then support it. MCO is only 30 minutes away and suits Disney perfectly fine

WDW is only 15 miles from MCO (Orlando) however, it isn't in the direct flight path.

I live 1.2 miles from MCO in the DIRECT FLIGHT PATH. Let me clue you in on noise. My windows are NEVER open and are triple insulated. I still can't hear the TV on really busy nights. HAHAHA

There are too many saftey risks, and the majority of people who come here dont come just for Disney, infact a big portion of people who fly to Orlando are coming for business.

Yes the strip is just before the MK Toll Plaza

Actually, its just after you pass through the MK Toll Plaza. If you stay to the right, as if you are heading to the MK resorts, instead of heading into the parking lot, STOLport is on the right side of the rode just after the intersection you pass through.

Its behind the trees at this point, put as you continue on the trees clear and you can see the end of the runway.

I can't say I agree with that... it's pretty much 80/20 fun to business from what my friend on the tourism board says.

No way they would do that!! They are very strick about THEIR air space as it is!

Plus it would kill Orlando since they are involved in a huge expansion as it is. Why bother when tax payers money can do it for them??

Disney Airlines... fly the happiest skies on earth....

you know, that's not a bad idea at all!

Virgin did it successfully, I bet Disney could even better.

In the ideal world I would love to see Disney Airlines. Meet and Greets in the flight deck :sohappy: Chicken Strips and Turkey legs to eat. :slurp:

I think there have been rumers of this before. I think the reason it wouldnt work is there is no major carrier that would fly there and to do it to make it cost effective would be this:

A guest would have to fly to lets say a hub and this hub is Atlanta. Then from atlanta the "Disney Airline by Delta (for example"would fly from there to the Disney airstrip. This in my mind is a pain.

So I doubt we will ever see this, especially with the FAA no-fly zone over WDW.
