abc1 Announces Advertising Deal with Procter & Gamble Procter & Gamble is the first major advertiser to tie up an advertising deal with abc1 — the general entertainment channel in the U.K. from Walt Disney Branded Television.
This news follows abc1's announcement in December 2004 that the channel would be taking advertising beginning in April 2005.
John Hardie, executive vice president and managing director, Walt Disney Branded Television, Europe, Middle East and Africa, said, "P&G is the world's largest advertiser, renowned for their expertise in marketing, and this decision is a flattering endorsement of both abc1 and our unique advertising approach."
Since its September launch on Freeview, abc1 has ranked fifth among the commercial channels, behind only ITV1, Channel 4, Five and ITV2.
In December, abc1 launched on Telewest Broadband and ntl digital, marking the first stage of continued expansion for the channel.
Across Freeview and Digital Cable homes, more than 10 million individuals have access to abc1.
