Disney 2-D Animation Thriving in Australia

Here's a snipit taken from Animated News:

As 2D Disney animation flounders in the US, Australia's studio booms with new talent.

Maybe The Lion King 1½ wont be such a fluke decent sequel after all. One story doing the rounds today, and highlighted by Showbiz Data, sees the animators laid off from Disney's Paris, Tokyo, Toronto, Florida and California studios finding their way back to the Mouse House - this time down under, at the Australian DisneyToon Studios facility, where the majority of the "better" video follow-ups have been made. Work on a theatrical Lilo And Stitch 2 is currently underway, so at least many of the same artists who worked on the first film may find themselves animating familar characters, and to the same high standard. "We are now [Disney's] primary traditional animation studio in the world", says the studio's general manager Philip Oakes, "and that just shores up our future". Er, I wouldn't be so sure Phil... wait until those sequels dry up. Next: Bambi, the Sequel...

To paraphrase Kida "It is not thriving. Sure it lives, but the magic is dying. The studio once made wonderful films but now, Traditional Animation is ruined."

Nah, Lilo and Stitch 2 is headed for the Neverland Jungle Book 2 route.

That being said, what i've seen of Lion King 1 1/2 makes me think maybe disney hasn't totally gotten rid of all of its talent. Now am I wrong, or is The studio in Florida like the biggest best place for animation in the company? Why wouldn't they utilize all the great stuff that WDFA and just center DisneyToon Studios in Orlando?

Lilo and Stitch "2"? Or, should I say, Lilo and Stitch 626?

GIVE ME A BREAK. I'm stitched out right now. I bought the great film on DVD, and since the TV series and sequel came out, I've never had the urge to pop it in. I'm just getting sick of it. . . it's as though the TV series 'ruins' the story. And this really adds to it.

So now that they're ruining Lilo and Stitch (and the Lion King should NEVER be touched again), I'm going to throw my cookies when Bambi II previews come out.

That is WRONG.

But Australia's cool! :D

There is a LOT of talent on that half of the world...but that wont be a factor on the quality of the projects they output...we all know where THOSE decisions are made;)
