Discovery River Boats?

I know this has probably been asked and answered before....I have looked but have not found an answer. What ever happened to the river boat ride in Animal Kingdom? I always see the docks when I am there and I wonder what has happened to the ride but could never figure it out.

They closed because they were rather boring. They were originally for transportation around the park but were very slow. There was very little to look at. Some gysers and a dragon cave. Eventually, animal experts with soft and cuddly or creepie crawlies were placed on the boats to enhance the guest experience but it didn't work. The docks are used for meet and greets and sometimes the characters will ride around on the boats.

A couple of the former Discovery River boats can be seen on Bay Lake/Seven Seas Lagoon. They've been re-themed and are used for kid's pirate cruises and one of the fireworks cruises. And when one is idle during a peak tranportation period, they might pull one into service to ferry people from MK to the Lodge or Fort Wilderness.
