Discount on Annual Passes?

A direct discount, not really. But assuming you either play the discounted gift card game, or purchase a ticket from a authorized reseller and then upgrade that after first use, you can get around having to pay full price.

This is what I did a few years ago.

The trick is to shop the ticket reseller and find whatever ticket that they offer that gives the greatest discount off of *that* ticket's gate price. Once you use the ticket and upgrade, you'll get that ticket's gate price as credit and then pay the difference between the gate price and the AP. (You also have to make sure the gate price is still less than the price of the AP, since they don't give a credit back if it costs more)

In my case, it was an 8-day Hopper with No-Expiration. I saved about $40-45 off the price of the 8-day ticket, and then paid about $4.26 (the difference between 8-day ticket's gate price and the price of the AP) at Guest Relations to upgrade.

So even though you're paying some money to the reseller and some money to Disney, if you add them up you're still coming out ahead of the full price of the AP.

Thanks for all the great information. The best discount I can find right now is on a ticket with the water park option. Does anyone know if when upgrading this ticket to an annual pass you would be forced to get the AP with the water park option as well, or could you get a standard Premier?

Historically you were only forced to upgrade to a Platinum Plus AP (or its historical equivalent) if you actually used one of the WP&M entitlements.
