Seeing my boys are getting older my dh and I are going to plan a date night next trip. Where would you suggest for a gluten free vegan and a not too picky omnivore? We're going op so not V&A. THNX

Where are you staying? If a deluxe resort, I'd use that resort's signature dining location. I like the experience of fully engaging in my resort's offerings rather than crisscrossing across Disney property. Plus, resort-to-resort transportation is a hassle.

I'd narrow it down to a handful of restaurants that have a theme you enjoy or a style of cuisine that piques your interest, and then let your dining companion make the final decision. You'll be able to get a custom-prepared vegan-and-gluten-free entree at any Disney table-service restaurant -- and although it varies by chef, candidly, it's probably going to be a similar sort of thing (roasted veggies in a balsamic-based sauce, for example, or some gluten-free pasta/flatbread options) anywhere you go, so your date might as well get to make the final call.

I'd suggest California Grill (Contemporary), Brown Derby (Hollywood Studios), Kona Cafe (Polynesian), and Raglan Road (Downtown Disney -- where you can swing by Erin McKenna's vegan-and-gluten-free bakery for dessert!).

There's a great Facebook group called "Veg Disney" that has been super helpful for me since changing to a vegan diet. Many people recommend the vegan risotto at Raglan Road. And as many people mentioned here, most of the deluxe resorts will create incredible GF/vegan meals for you (just be sure to have your request noted in your ADR so that a chef contacts you to set something up - otherwise they might have to "wing" it and your meal might be a bit lackluster).

Hollywood & "Vile" rec....too funny!

I haven't personally tried it, but I've heard very good things about Cali Grill whipping up some great things for vegans and I know they can handle gluten free. You might just google Disney California Grill Vegan Gluten Free and see what comes up. And even if it doesn't qualify for special diets, you might reach out to that division at Disney for pointers. Beyond that, the setting can't be beat for a date night! :)

I have a mild food allergy so I try to pre-pick my foods and call ahead. I've been told by Disney Dining that they can't guarantee a menu item in the TS restaurants because they can't guarantee the ingredients for each day. Some restaurants may run out of an item or they may not have gotten the right shipment.

Pick your restaurant, pick your possible meal and be prepared to tell your server. The server should go and get the chef so the chef can make sure you get the right meal.

I chose a meal at the Yak and Yeti only to find out that my allergy item was used to make the sauce and not listed on the menu. The chef made sure she checked all of the ingredients and made me a dinner she cooked from scratch. The SciFi Dine-In presented me a burger cooked on it's own grill and served to me by both the manager and head chef! :) None of the CMs made me feel like a weirdo, they all made me feel special.

I highly recommend contacting the people at Disney Dining and let them know about your dietary concerns.

Thank you that so sweet for you to have gone to the trouble. I now have their info in my Disney planning folder. I really hope I can find time to get over there! The only problem with a Disney vacation, so much to do so little time!
I only recommend Columbia so highly because it is a special place for us. Your mileage may vary.

Figgie you know that I am a puma, "a day without meat is like a day without sunshine," but I digress. That said, the California Grill is a wonderful date night restaurant with a fantastic view and you can watch wishes from the room of the Contemporary. They have a veggie ravioli dish on the menu that looks very good. Artist Point has a vegan lo mein dish that also sounds good and you get to checkout the Wilderness Lodge. If you are in DHS the Hollywood Brown Derby has a veggie noodle bowl that my DW says was very good. Enjoy!

Sorry to hijack the thread but these all look amazing and I think DW and I will have to try this place!

San Angel Inn also has a separate vegetarian menu and we're pretty sure at least one of the selections was vegan and GF, maybe both. We ate there in mid February.

DW's entree-black beans, corn tortilla, grilled vegetables

Obviously you know to call ahead/ask/not assume that something will fit your dietary needs but I think this is a good place to start.

THNX OMG! Now I want to have a date night every night! LOL My boys don't like to stop and eat unless it's all you can eat! I swear they could live off counter service. I know you could and quite well but......:banghead: The only exception being BOG. They both want me to get an ADR for there. :):)
