Dining Plan Question - Hoop Dee Doo

We always get the dining plan...sometimes we get lucky enough for a code...other times we pay for it. But I called in the other night to make ADR's...I got to Hoop-Dee-Doo and the CM informed me that she had category 1 seating for us...I was pretty happy...but then when we got to the end I realized I had failed to inform her I was on the dining plan...we then remade the reservations...but the best she could get for Hoop-Dee-Doo was Category 2 or 3 on ANY day...

Does Disney relegate Dining plan to the back of the house?

I understand if they would do this for a free dining promotion...but when people pay for it...and it does take two DDP entitlements...just not sure how I feel about that.

Just wondering if it was a coincidence...or if that is the way it is.

I believe they do. We used DDP for HDD once and were upper level if I recall.....

The 8:30pm show you can get all categories 1-3 but the 2 earlier shows you can only do categories 2-3. So we always do 8:30pm to get Catagory 1 with the dining plan and we just like the later show. :)

Don't worry about being 'back of the house'. There really isn't a bad seat anywhere in the place. There are some really nice category 2 tables - we sat 2 tables from the stage a few weeks ago.

We had category 2 on the 26th of Dec. Had a table in the balcony right on the railing looking right down on the stage.

I thought you could make reservations without the DDP. You would just tell the server at the table that your using the DDP. If so I don't see why you had to change your reservations at all. I know the last time I made ADRs all they wanted was my CC number to hold the reservations. They never asked about the DDP or for my hotel reservation. I had to go into my account and link all my ADRs to my hotel reservation later.

Have done HDD with DDP every other year for the past 10 years. Only once were we seated not against the stage.
That time we were the next row back. Have done early and last shows. Never had a problem with Cat 1 seating.

This is from the 2015 Dining Plan pdf off of the Disney World web site:

The Disney Dining Plan can be used for Category 2 or Category 3 seating at all Dinner
Shows (subject to availability) and Category 1 seating at the 8:30pm Hoop-Dee-Doo
Musical Revue (subject to availability).

We sat right by the entrance (category 2) a couple of years ago, and loved it. You could see everything without having to swivel around and find the performers. Plus I felt like I could eat without the performers having to stare at me, like when we were right in front.
We've also sat front row (table touching the stage) and right in the middle of all the action, too. I'd like to try the balcony some time, but my travel buddy isn't great with heights like that. We usually try for the late show to get category 1 because of that now, and we always go with the dining plan.

Here's the view from the back.

Here you can see we were right in front of the entrance.

I'm also not sure why you had to make a new ADR? Couldn't you have just told them you were on DDP at the podium?

I guess it doesn't matter right now in your case but I am curious for the future.

Also, can't you keep trying back from now until then and hope that a Category 1 opens up?
