Dining plan and missing a reservation...what happens?

I was just wondering what happens if you make a reservation for a meal and miss it either because you decided to go somewhere else, were late or something else. If you have a Dining plan do they count it against you? What if you go somewhere else? Will they charge you twice because you have a reservation somewhere else. Obviously you wouldn't purposely just not show up but what if you forget you had a reservation somewhere? Do you lose that meal?

No, unless it was a meal guaranteed with a credit card (i.e. Princess Dining or California Grill). And at that point, you don't lose a credit, you only get a cancellation fee on your credit card (I have no idea how much it is - I think it depends on the place).

No consequences for missing a "regular" reservation - it just gives you boatloads of bad karma for the rest of your trip!!

If you decide to eat elsewhere or are still full from the previous meal, please be kind enough to call and cancel your reservation so someone else may use them.

I was going to say the same thing.....Call as soon as you know you will not make it. It'll make Magic for someone else that may not have gotten in otherwise

Yup - hence my warning about Karma. I forgot to cancel a reservation (legitimately, I swear!!), and I lost my camera that very night. I firmly believe it was because I was "hoarding" a table at Tony's for no good reason...

Bottom line: even if you cancel it 5 minutes beforehand, at least that way they don't hold it for too long so that the table becomes useless. Disney reservations are based on a 45 minute table turnover, from what I'm able to gather, so if you only leave them 30 minutes to reassign the table, it messes with the system...

Of course! If we decide to go somewhere else I would let them know. I was just curious if there was a "charge" for canceling. My 4 year old has nut allergies and I feel like I saw somewhere that has peanut butter play-dough for desert somewhere. Of course now I can't remember where this is.

That would be the Coral Reef.

Oh great! :( Coral Reef is one of the places we have a reservation and also one that I've been looking foreward to trying. That's disapointing.

If you get in contact with the restaurant a day before hand and tell them about the allergy, they will most likely be able to accomodate you in any way. They will make sure the food won't be cross contaminated.

I was not aware that Disney "reserved" tables. As far as I know, an ADR just ensures that you get the next available table--no table is actually reserved for you (I'm sure Disney wisened up to this after people started skipping out on reservations), so it doesn't really screw up the system if you don't make your ADR--however, it does possibly make it impossible for someone else to get an ADR, so that would be the reason to cancel an ADR. Disney doesn't leave tables open.

I didn't express myself right. Disney doesn't reserve tables per se, but they do have a certain number of time "slots" available for each dining time. So if you don't show up for your "slot" then you're taking up space for nothing...

*sigh* One day I'll learn to speak, you know, properly! Thanks for correcting me!!
