Dining Payment Policy Changes for Walt Disney World

Effective Aug. 29, 2004, the Walt Disney World Resort is changing the payment policy for three popular dining experiences. Payment in full will be required at time of booking for the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue, Disney's Spirit of Aloha and Mickey's Backyard BBQ dinner shows.

Guests may cancel up to 48 hours in advance to receive a full refund. This change will streamline the experience for guests as they pick up Dinner Show tickets from Walt Disney World Resort Guest Service locations.

Guests booked on packages that include dining at a Disney Dinner Show must provide a credit card to guarantee their reservation. The credit card will not be charged unless the reservation is cancelled within 48 hours or the party is a no show.

Aren't there a couple of other spots that require a partial charge when booking. . .especially on a Holiday? Thanksgiving?

I thought I read that some require 25 to 50 % deposit when booking. May be wrong.

Three years ago (May 2001), we attended both the Hoop-Dee-Do and the Luau and had to pay for BOTH IN FULL with a credit card upon reservation. We even had the plan where you had the daily options that you could use for food...I forget which one this is..... But they took the charge off the day we checked in. So I don't think this is something new.

How is it that payment in full will be required at the time of booking AND the credit card will not be charged unless the reservation is cancelled within 48 hours?   I think I'm missing something...

We have done the Hoop-Dee-Doo (highly recommend), but what are the other two dinner shows?

If a guest cancels outside of 48 hrs. in advance of the show, the CC will be credited.

The CC is required for those on a plan such as Silver, Gold, Platinum that don't require a cash payment. CC is a guarantee and won't be charged unless the reservation is cancelled withn 48 hrs. or is a no show.

I figured I was missing something simple. Thanks! We are getting ready to book a PS for Hoop-Dee-Doo for 7 people so I wanted to make sure I had it straight.

Mickey's Backyard BBQ and Spirit of Aloha Luau

Um, thanks. I meant where are they I guess. I am assuming the Spirit of Aloha is one of the Luaus at the Poly but is it the Mickey one or the adult one? And I have not heard of Mickey's Backyard BBQ, where is it held?

Thanks,
Mike

Never been to the BYBBQ, but the Luau is awful. I will never go again. HDD, however is great. ONe of the best things we've ever done at WDW.

I liked the Luau as a kid, except for the fact you could not see your food. We did it again in the mid 1990s and my wife hated it, I just didn't think it was so great. She food was so-so and the all you can drink drinks were beer and some super sweet mixed drink. I don't care for beer and the sweet stuff was too sweek.

HDD is a great time, especially with kids. I don't remember what the drinks were there. Was is just sangria?

I had to pay in full with a credit card the last time, for the Candlelight Processional dinner package.

I just called the Disney Restaurant line for some info about HDD, and he did confirm this change. It'll still be a guarantee (no charge) through Saturday, but come Sunday (29th), they'll "just take your money". Of course you'll get it credited if you cancel at least 48 hours from your PS time.

Hoop Dee Doo has sangria and beer, as well as tea and soft drinks.

The Backyard BBQ is something we will never do again. Cold beans and hot dogs and line dancing for 40 bucks. No Thanks!!!

I'll do HDD every other trip. The kids are constantly entertained there, giving me a chance to actually EAT!!

And I'll do the Luau again. I thought the food was pretty good there. Actually, I thought the food was really good. Didn't get a lot out of the show, as I had a one-year old at the time, and she wasn't really interested. But I think once both kids are a little older, we'll have more fun there.

Almost forgot - I had heard about the charging policy change as well. Personally, I like the change. I always hated having to give a credit card number to reserve, and then turning around at the resort and having to show them my card so they could charge the tickets. This will at least remove a step.

Is this a retroactive change? I have already booked HDD for our first night in Oct., and as usual I had to give a cc # to reserve our spot. I am assuming that I will still have to go to guest relations to pay and get our paperwork.

I agree that this is a good change, one less thing to worry about and take care of once your on vacation.

Also, I agree that the Luau is just so-so. But then again we were there in Jan. and it was COLD!!
