Dining options for tweens

Happy holidays everyone!
Tomorrow (the 26th) begins our 180 day window for reservations for dining.
Our kids will be 10 and 13 on our trip and I know that they are no longer on the kids menu. They will probably not be able to eat all of the food on the adult menu. Last time we were down we were able to order off the kids menu and just pay for the dessert and drinks as an upcharge.
Is this normal practice or something I can ask for?

Anyone can order off the kids menu. It is not an issue. My wife had a stomach bypass surgery 8 years ago and can't eat large portions. She always orders off the kids menu at QS and TS places. We have never had a problem.

So you're obviously not on the DDP. You can order a child's meal at any CS or A LA CARTE TS restaurant, no matter how old you are. But you will be charged the full adult price for each child at any buffet or AYCTE restaurant.

This! I am a petite lady (5' tall and my 10yo isn't much lighter than I am) and will sometimes order off of the kids meal if I am not hungry. I have never been denied and personally I was never asked to pay more. Some people said they have but it's not full price even.

Another thing we do, is to split an adult entree if we agree on the same thing. That way food doesn't go to waste as well.

Obviously buffets are different - or anything with a fixed price per age. The rest you can order as you like whenever. I'd definitely forgo the DDP in this case because the older kids will wind up costing too much for what you get.
