Digital Camera Resolution Question

Hi everyone, I just got a digital camera over Christmas and plan on bringing it along to Disney this July. My question is, what is the lowest resolution that I can shoot at to still get high quality 5 x 7 photos that I can develop for my disney photo album?

Ive got the Sony DSC-P5, Here are my res settings:

2048 x 1536
2048 (3:2)
1600 x 1200
1280 x 960
640 x 480

I have taken tons of shots since I got the camera but have never printed any out which I definately want to do for disney.

Thanks for all your help.:animwink:

You can get away with 1280 x 960 , but it really depends on what your interpretation of high quality is. If I were you, I would always shoot at the highest res, you never know when you may need to print larger than 5x7s, or when you may need to crop from a photo. Flash memory is relatively cheap now, so you can take plenty of memory with you, and shoot at high res! Or take a laptop and download each night from the camera to the PC. :)

Have a great trip!

Hey Christopher,

I also have a DSC-P5, and I regularly shoot at the highest setting (2048 x 1536). I have 3 128 MB memory sticks, and they always last me the whole day. Keep in mind that's about 270 pictures. It really depends on how many pictures you think you'll take. If you aren't taking that many, than I would definitely go with the highest--just to be safe. My picures print on my Sony printer (dye-sub) and look fantastic.

A tip I would suggest, would be to experiment around the house, with family members, or pets, or plants with different resolutions and decide for yourself what is satisfactory quality. Hope this helps a bit!

EDIT:
I guess I should have mentioned that I bring the laptop to upload all of my pictures to every night. It works out great.
