I am looking to buy a digital camera, but really don't know too much about them. I know a bunch of you use them and can probably help me choose one.

While at WDW I will not have access to a computer, so I need to know what how many pictures I can take on a memory stick, and on an extra memory stick.

Any help is appreciated (also suggestions on which to get would be helpful)

Thanks!!!

Hey there!

Heres what I have and it comes handy at WDW and on trips.
You need a 32MB Card for picture storage. Make sure you get Rechargeable batteries, they last for a few years and cost about $11 for 4 of them, if you dont get them, you will be spending about $20 for batteries at WDW.

If you are going to be taking pictures, get more than a 32MB card. I have a 64 and 2 8's and they get filled to capacity using mostly low resolution pictures.

I'm getting another 64 and probally taking my mom's 64 with me this summer because I won't be able to transfer them to my computer.

However if you have a laptop or can download pics between picture taking trips, then a 32 or 64 will be just fine.

If you are just starting out I would recomend the Fuji Finepix 1300. Its a late model camera that you can find for about $120. It has a 1.3 megapixel resolution. Can hold up to 664 pictures on a 64mb smart media card at the lowest resolution. 101 at high res. You can check my website for examples. It has great performance at a great price.

Hope this helps!

We researched for a long time before be bought a digital camera last month. IMO don't go for less then 2 mega pixels, but you don't need to go much higher then that. The bigger a memory card you can get the better. We found Costco sells 128 for around 60 dollars (about half the price of other places!) We are also considering getting a card reader so we can take pictures of and put them back on the card to get them printed if we want.

We looked on line at Yahoo to compare and look at peoples reports on them.

We were looking at Olympus, but ended up with a Nikon Coolpix 775 (also at Costco around 370.) What I liked about buying at Costco is they don't have a 15 % restocking fee to take it back if you aren't satisfied like many other places.

It is really small and you can take it anyplace real easily. There is significant delays in taking some pictures and that can be frustraing with a 1 year old as your prime subject!!!

I like it, but am glad I still have a good film camera too, I need both really!

I'm looking for a good digital camera that takes good night shots. The one I have now, a Nikon colpix 800, the pictures are always blurry when I take pictures at night and stuff like fireworks. I need a camera that can take a picture from magic kingdom over bay lake to the grand Floridian or the contemporary resorts at night and have it be crisp.

Thanks

Don’t get me wrong the coolpix 800 is a great all around camera. it takes great day shots.

I just purchased an olympus c2040z and love it. what i did was to go to www.cnet.com and read viewer opinions of the cameras you are interested in. I did and from user opinions alone i didnt but 2 or 3 models i was looking at. When you do get one, get more the one set of rechargable batteries, make sure they are the NiMH type, they last longer then NiCD . Also i have 2 32 mb and 1 64 mb card in addition to the 8mb card that came with the camera. 1 card WILL not do. You can get them reasonably priced @ costco. gl and let us know how you make out.....

Taking night shots means that the camera will need a long shutter speed. Long shutter speeds mean that the camera is very likely to be affected by camera shake, which isnt the fault of the camera. :) Try putting your Coolpix on a wall or something solid, and then take the photo. Your blurry night shots will be a thing of the past. :)

I took all of http://www.wdwmagicmedia.com/illum_2000_photos.htm on a Nikon 950, using a wall as a support. :)

Yup that's right! :) Ideally for night shots you need a tripod. Instead of lugging one around WDW, I find a wall that I can stand the camera on for taking night shots. It gives you a good solid base, and allows the camera to remain perfectly still for taking long exposures. :)

We found a small tripod at Walmart for around 5 dollars that fits on all our cameras. It is about the size of 3 pencils put together. It gives you a little bit of lift and helps to steady it. We also have an Olympus 35 mm that has a remote and use it for that!

So just to clarify...

How many pictures can be stored on 32MB or 64MB cards?

And what resolution do you guys use when you take pics?

Well I believe it depends on the camera. With mine I can have 664 pictures at normal res 640x420. 101 pictures at high res 1200x900. And that is with a 64mb smart media card.

Most of the pictures I took are 640x420 which is a nice size for viewing on a computer monitor.
