News Did I miss a memo? Since when does Disney make "rides" rather than "attractions"?

Wasn't it always the Disney way to refer to new attractions rather than new rides? So you could "ride an attraction" but you didn't "ride a ride"? It was always a popular parks trivia question to be asked "How many rides are there at Disneyland?"* When did that change?

* The correct answer - until now - was one or two depending on the knowledge level of the cast member who asked the question. Can you name them? :)

Probably just sloppy formatting considering "Avengers Attractions" is right above it.

I remember that old riddle as well.

I also remember when Disneyland used to boast "over 50 rides and attractions".

I find it more interesting that it's "Avatar Area" and not "Avatar Land."

Anyway, the answer is to your riddle is Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.

I think that’s a dead giveaway it’s going in the Hollywood backlot. They ve refused to call it a land because the ride is pretty much the whole land. Just setting expectations so people don’t expect Pandora I guess. That’s my take anyway. But then again I’d have to imagine it’ll be its own land on the map.

I think they are referring it to Avatar Area as they are not ready to release a name, and don’t want to use Avatarland which automatically brings to mind DAK.

Nor do they want to call it Pandora, as again that would automatically have people thinking of the land in DAK.

I'm sure they will call it a land with an official name once it opens.

Because Avatarland is already vernacular for the DAK version. They are ensuring these two lands are differentiated.

It’s Pandora at AK. Not Avatar Land. Anyone can see from the concept art that it’s not the same experience. But not everyone can understand that the land isn’t all that big and nobody outside of hardcore fans know it’s most likely being “crammed” into the backlot/ transpo zone.

It’ll have to be land at the end of the day unless they are saying it’s part of Hollywood which is not happening. But that doesn’t mean they need to create unrealistic expectations for the next four years. If this is why they re referring to it as “area” or “experience” that is a smart idea by them. Then when people walk into the land they wont have any preconceived notions. It’ll be the opposite of GE where they over promised and under delivered.

Officially its called "Pandora - The World of Avatar", but its just call Avatar Land by a majority of the guests.

So to call it as Avatar Land would evoke thoughts of it being similar to Pandora in DAK, which it will not be. Also hasn't been established that almost all if not all of Pandora (without the long lead-in walk) could fit in the Backlot.

I know the official name. I’m just explaining why they would likely avoid any use of the term “Avatarland”, which has been widely used to refer to “Pandora – The World of Avatar”, since they first announced for DAK.

Based on concept art, this new “destination” should have food and dining, so I expect it will be considered a land.

“Pandora - The Great Ocean” ??

I doubt it as we already have the concept art that looks nothing like Pandora. As well as concept art and a description of the ride.

No duh it looks nothing like Pandora in the concept art, that's the whole point that is trying to be made here. Its suppose to be a new area on Pandora based on WoW and the new movies. Which is why they don't want to just describe it as "Avatar Land" as that would get people thinking Disney is just building the same thing in DCA that they have in DAK.

My point is if people have the land concept art, know it’s based on “Way of Water” and have seen concept art for the new ride as well as a description for it then either Disney thinks people are really dumb or perhaps it’s what I said, they don’t want to create unrealistic expectations of what an Avatar LAND entails. People like you and I know that this is probably going in the backlot. Other more causal fans who’s imaginations might be running wild and think DL Forward will be the greatest thing since sliced bread might think this thing is going to be bigger than Galaxies Edge or at least as big as Pandora at AK.

It’s not that they re worried people will think this is Pandora from AK, the concept art makes sure of that. Its that they worry people will think it’s on the same scale and maybe have multiple rides etc.
