Did Anyone Ever See Symbiosis?

Unfortunately, there is only one permanent (well, nothing is TRULY permanent with Disney cause they love to rip down attractions) attraction I never got to experience in EPCOT. I never saw the movie Symbiosis. What was it like? Anyone remember? Anyone have pictures?? I would love to hear about it. Anyone have a video of it?? That would really be cool. Whatever you have to share, I would love to hear!

I have one photo of Symbiosis. It was pretty much like the Circle of Life...but more of a...original UoE style if you know what I mean. This was soooo long ago...I really don't clearly remember, but I hear the Circle of Life actually uses original footage, which I find very nice. :)

symbiosis

I saw the show when i was younger. It is really similar to the movie "The Circle of Life" that is in the Harvest Theater now. Except there was no Lion King characters.

I just remember it was REALLY sleepy. It was like those old science films from elementary school.

"Here is a seed... with water and sunlight it will grow into a plant, We will now sit for 8 weeks while it germinates.

I wish they would sell videos (or better yet, DVDs) of the films from obsolete attractions. Although Symbiosis probably wouldn't be my first choice to run out and buy, I do recall that it was educational and it held my interest. I only saw it once, but I remember that the music was really powerful (and the sound system in that theater has always been great).

The Circle of Life is better although I generally object to bringing the characters into Epcot. It was never part of the original plan and for the first few years it was open (until Eisner came to Disney), the company didn't have the characters there because they wanted Epcot to be distinctly different from the Magic Kingdom (this is detailed in the book The Disney Touch which I mentioned on another thread). I agree with that philosophy (which is why I can't stand seeing that hideous wand and Mickey hand next to Spaceship Earth). However, I do like the Circle of Life and I do think having two of Disney's popular characters in it probably help reinforce the environmental message to kids.

The Circle of Life film, in the Land Pavillion, uses a lot of the footage from the old film Symbiosis. The re-hab of the Land in the 90's, took the film, and it's old science lecture type narration, and gave it a new lease on life. (Kind of a Circle of Attraction Life.) It was always a spectacular piece of film, just a dry presentation with a name that didn't attract much of an audience. With the addition of the Lion King characters, and a name change, WDW has successfully transformed a lightly attended movie into a bit of a draw. The show always seems to play to at least half full houses when we go in the quiet month of January. The last time I saw the presentation as Symbiosis, there were only 10 people in the theatre besides my party.

Land Grille Room? Good Turn Restaurant? Ah, memories!! I would have to say though that the KK was the best "extinct" part of the land; the other attractions are just reincarnations.

COL also has the same "wall painting" that Symbiosis had. :D

I thought KK was the BEST Show. I bought the Epcot album (yes vinyl) because of that show. Well... that and "Golden Wings" from American Adventure.

I saw Symbiosis Comatosis once, and that was enough. It was very dry. I personally regret never seeing KK. But I did manage to catch that Imagineering Labs during its brief existance. At the time they were featuring a Aladdin-based virtual carpet ride attraction in development, which apparently evolved into that Dumbo-esque ride in Adventureland.:veryconfu

Actually, that Aladdin magic carpet thing is in Disney Quest in downtown Disney!
I saw that presentation too, and I was so mad that I didn't get picked to try it out.
(It was like 1994...Virtual Reality was the coolest thing to a then- 10 year old!)

I actually got picked to be in the VR demo. It was great. You could run into Characters and they would say stuff to you. I even won the game. I wonder how DQ's version is?

Woah! You have taken the words right out of my mouth. I couldn't have said it better! I wish that stupid Mickey hand would come down!!! Quite frankly, I wish some one in the Disney company had the vision and desire the build the real EPCOT. Wouldn't that be nice!
