DHS Early Open?

We went to DHS early Monday to go through the grueling torture known as "activating the military pass" (I kid) then walked through the turnstiles and right to Toy Story, as normal. But we got there at 0830 and I woke up and thought, "Wait, why are we here this early?"

We walked right up to the FastPass machine and got a 0940 then walked on to the ride. The FastPass CM said they had completed all their safety checks and decided to open early. Never had that happen before. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yep. They've been soft opening the park at 8:30 these past few days. During the recent busy holiday time they were opening the park 30 minuets early and I guess they decided to keep it going.

We were there early on New Year's Eve for a breakfast ADR, and they had opened at 7:30. I was pleasantly surprised to see that.....

Is there any indication that this will extend beyond the 20th?

I noticed this after the marathon as well, and i gotta say it is really nice! I do hope they continue this trend throughout the year as i was able to do tsm 2 times before 9 and there was no stampede either. It was a nice and easy stroll. Was also able to get 2 sets of faatpasses this way. Real nice.

Ill answer my own question for those interested.

Opened at 850, cast member at gate said all safety procedures 'passed' during trial period, so this is new permanent way of park opening. No more rope drop and rush to tsm. He said opening time will vary based on park projections for day. So today, 14k projecte (not a lot), not many ppl lined up at gate, 850 it was. Could be as early as 830 for 9am opening.

This is definitely heaven sent because with the rope drop and there being so little to do at mgm, I remember riding toy story then trying to ride ToT afterward and the line being 50+ minutes already. With this way, the crowds disperse a little and it seems to give you more of a chance to hit all the big ones before it gets crowded.

Yup...2 ppl in our party and we were able to obtain a fastpass, jump in line to ride, then ride AGAIN immediately (unheard of before) all before 920ish.
