What about Discovery Cove? oh wait even the Disney Paramilitary Wing may have to accept that its better than the Living Seas tank.

I heard the same story while we were there. Apparently it's going to be a water park, similar to Discovery Cove, slides & such also, but will have dolphin shows and some reefs. It was scheduled to open 2008 if I recall what the worker had said. He had mentioned also that attendance was on a big decline and they needed to generate more & of course more revenue - shocker :lookaroun

I don't know which employee you spoke with, but that person is not close to the facts!

Yes, Anheuser Busch is building a new water park. They wanted to open it this spring but couldn't get special dolphins from Taiwan (I think) so they pushed it back to next year. It will have a lot of slides that are "family oriented." Most of the slides will accomodate more than one person so people can enjoy them at the same time.

I've seen the model in person, it looks really fun.

As for the attendance, SeaWorld just hit record attendance for 2006. I don't know how that makes for lagging attendance, but some employees think that this time of year should be packed, but in reality Shamu makes money when 6,000 people are in the park! If you go back and look at Anheuser Busch's SEC filings, the theme parks have profited the past few years while the beer division has been in the red... Thank god for Shamu, Sheikra, Big Bad Wolf, and Big Bird!

FYI, Anheuser Busch owns Grupo Modelo, the brewer of Corona! Yes, when you enjoy a Corona with lime... You're helping feed Shamu!

Whats interesting is that Grupo Modelo distributes Anheuser Busch in Mexico, but still controls the Corona line that Anheuser Busch has a majority ownership of !

Yup. AB wanted it for the profit... that's it. AB has no say so in the control, just the profits.

How is Discovery Cove by the way? I have often thought about going there, but have wondered if it's worth the money.

It is visualy stunning. A very well appointed park. The check in can be a bit slow, so arrive early. You are given a set time for your "dolphin encounter" and you meet at a nominated location and receive a spiel about dolphins and what s going to happen.

Then its off to some damn cold water and around 20 -30 mins of dolphin time. I think there are around 8 in each group, and you all get a brief swim with the dolphin and some phot opps. My wife and kids loved it.

The park has a Lazy River type water feature and thats good to swim around as there are some deep points. Then theyres the chance to feed the Rays as they swim arround your feet. The large fish tank area is again very cold but there are some beautiful fish.

Everything is provided, mask snorkel, sun screen even lunch, which is quite good. Snacks and drinks are also included in the price.

Is it worth the money? Well as I said it depends on what you like. I thought it was no better than OK, another box ticked, but my wife and tenage daughters all really loved it. Perhaps Im just a miserable old git.:animwink: or perhaps it was bcause I booked it and new how much it had cost.

LIke Mickster said, it depends on the person.

We have been two times. The first time we did the dolphin swim. It was fun, but we were in a group of 12 and barely got dolphin time.

The second time we hung out and drank at the beach. It's all inclusive, so the beer is free!

The coral reef is where we spend all our time. IMO it's better than the dolphin encounter.

If you wait two years, they're going to move the Beluga Whales over to Discovery Cove to have interactions with them!

You gotta look at it like an experience your only gonna do maybe once or twice in your life, and not so much as a bottom line cost because yes it is really expensive. I live up north in Boston so it is not that often I will ever get a chance to swim with dolphins or even swim in warm water for that matter lol. :ROFLOL:One of my buddies is gonna do the trainer for a day thing when he is there, and that is $450 per person. I know next time I go to Orlando, I will do it for the half hour swim thing with my family. At least I can always say then after that yes I did swim with Flipper in my lifetime ahahah.

I didn't read this entire thread, however did anyone mention that annual passes are now just $65 for florida residents ?? well not exactly an annual pass but from the time u purchase them through the 2007 year, thats still pretty good. My girlfriend and I are now including seaworld in our spring break vacation a week from now, were gonna hit up univeral and seaworld as well as all the disney parks as well. As for seaworld bein desperate, I truly do think it is a different kind of crowd... I love seaworld but i couldnt bare to go there more than maybe 3 times a year, since i live only 2 hours away that isnt asking too much. I think that they have went in the right direction to include Kraken and Atlantis, and the waterpark will help as well. I dont think seaworld pulls people away from disney as much as it is something else in orlando for people to do to make a week vacation out of, not everyone wants to go to disney the entire time.

I think you are referring to the Fun Passes and they are available to everyone-not just Florida residents. They are different than annual passes because you still have to pay for parking and you don't get discounts on the food or itemns you buy in the stores like you do with the Silver or Gold passes. It is a great deal for everyone.
