Delux vs. Moderate

We currently have reservations at the Beach Club in August. On previous visits we have stayed at Dixey Landings, CB, Coronodo Springs and the Beach Club. We did love the pool and Beaches and Cream and many other things at the Beach Club. We have also liked the other resorts we stayed at except CB.

My daughter is going to be leaving for college at the end of August and this will most likely be our last vacation as a family, she is our only child.

My question is, do you think it is worth the extra money for a delux versus a moderate? I am really having trouble deciding this issue. Last year we got the Beach Club for the price of a moderate. Our travel agent has told us the discounts for August are not out yet but as soon as they are she will get the cheaper rate. Sorry so long, I tend to babble.:zipit:

If you can afford it, then I say that it is worth it. But don't sacrifise other things to stay there. Only go for it if you can afford it and still do all the things you want to do.

Yeah if it's affordable go for it! The Moderates are fine but the Deluxes are really nice. I would definantly go for it if you have the chance!

First of all, my parents thought the same thing when we went to WDW when I was 18. Unless you think your daughter is rather entrepreneurial and won't need you anymore, lots of college kids can't afford the annual trip to WDW. :D I have gone with my family many times since my 18th birthday--it's just different now. My parents get some "alone time" (not that parents need that ;) ) and I get some time to myself, too.

That said, I agree with Pam. If you can afford the Deluxe without sacrificing other parts of your trip, you won't be disappointed. :)

BTW, I hated CB. Of the moderates you stayed in, which did you enjoy? :)

Mightyduck - you have put a smile on my face :) I hope hope hope she will go with us next year. The best moderate we stayed at was Dixey Landings. I loved the south setting. I know its not called that anymore, but is it still open? Coronodo Springs was nice, but the theme just wasn't us.

It is still there...it is just Called Port Orleans Riverside now. The whole Port Orleans facility is going through a major rehab period now (just for your info.).

Mary Ellen, the family has Disneyed my mom out, but I heard her say, "Wouldn't it be nice if you and your husband can come with us and stay at the condo at Disney for a week next year?" LOL! Just don't blame me in 15 years when she's still following you to WDW! ;)

(My parents have a two bedroom condo booked for June, and I was trying to see if I could join them, but I have to teach. My dad looked like he was going to fall over when I invited myself!)

You'll still see her. Don't worry. And maybe someday, you can take grandkids instead! :)

Yes, definately upgrade to a deluxe resort. In February I stayed at the Caribbean Beach, and after having stayed at the Contemporary the last two trips before that, it was kind of a let down. I love how all of the deluxe resorts are so unique, especially the Contemporary, Polynesian, and Grand Floridian. The moderates all, to me, seem so cookie-cutter. It's like it's the same hotel, but one has a New Orleans theme and the other has a South Western theme, you know?

And don't think your daughter won't come to Disney World with you after she turns 18! I'm 17 and I'll be graduating high school in June, and I have no plans to discontinue my trips to Disney World with my parents; I just might want to bring my boyfriend with me the next time around. ;) So, unless your daughter is going to college in a galaxy far, far away, don't expect those Disney trips to end! (Or maybe she will start working at WDW like I want to :D)

Animal Kingdom Lodge has had some nice discounts recently, as low as a $100 a night! Since it would be your last visit with her, see if you can get a discout there.

Mary Ellen, myself and my wife to be are both 28 and wouldn't dream about going to Disney without my parents (my Dad would never forgive me!) I left college 7 years ago and moved out properly 6 years ago! Although we are now paying our own way now :)

As for the deluxe resorts, I agree with everyone else on the thread, if you can afford it without it being detrimental to other things, then go for it as the deluxe resorts are beautiful.

I'm sure you'll have a great trip wherever you stay.

Stick to what you like!!

I will say though that the BC/YC are quite inconsistent. I've stayed at each . I had a friend recently come back from BC and he hated it. Said staff was very rude and rooms poorly maintained. I know on my trips there i was lucky, I even got an upgrade from standard to pool view with a great balcony. whereas my friends had a bad viewand a not so nice room.

Go for the Beach Club if you can swing it. We just got back from staying at Caribbean Beach and I just booked another trip for the end of June and we are staying at the Beach Club!!. I look at it this way. It will be summer, it will be hot and what better place to relax than between Epcot and MGM!!! It is totally worth the extra money. You can do so much right there at the hotel and be at either park in minutes without hassle. ENJOY!!!:)

I love mod resort (althought I most likely will never stay at one again now that we are DVC.) What means more to you? Do you want to the food court?, or more options that aren't as fast of food? Even with out a food court beach club has many options wiht Beach and Cream and Boardwalk near by, not to mention all of Epcot. Will you be spending a lot of time at Epcot and MGM, or MK mostly.

There is nothing else like SAB, how much does it mean to you? in the summer you might use it more. We were planing on staying at BC again this summer since the pool is so great for a 2 year old, but are staying at OKW instead since we could do 3 extra night there for the same amount of points.

What feels right to you and what is more important? It sounds like you are leaning towards BC. That is the problem with moving up to Deluxe once, while mods are great, you just don't want to go back, get too spoild.

Don't worry, unless you don't want her with you in the future, there will be more family vacations, but it might be with more people then just the 3 of you alone.

:D Thanks for your posts everyone. I have a huge smile while I type this, I guess it's from thinking about taking my daughter with her kids (when she has them) to Disney World . Yeah, that is something I can really look forward to. And when they cry, they can go back to my daughter's room while my husband and I have some quite time;) .

Now that's the spirit! :D I went to WDW with my parents, aunt & uncle, & cousin, who had her 2nd birthday while in WDW. When she cried (usually when a non face character came near her), it was nice to be able to just walk away. :D :p

You know, that reminds me: my parents like it much better now that I stay in my own room. Something about them trying to take "naps" and having my brother and I decide we were tired, too. :lookaroun

Just enjoy this trip for what it is, and worry about what it is the beginning and end of in the future when you can see it with some perspective. :)

Caribbean Beach

Why do people say that they hate it? This is a beautiful resort with a magnificent trail to walk around. It's so calm and peaceful and it looks just like the caribbean. What made it so bad that people say they hated it? I was at POR and I hated that. Rooms were small and the buses there are worse than any place I've stayed at and I've stayed at a lot of different resorts there. They just renovated it also. I don't get it?:brick:
