Decisions! So tough...

Okay... so here's my problem...

My parents are coming down to visit me. I'm trying to figure out what resort to have them stay at. We've stayed at the Contemporary, Polynesian, and the Grand Floridian before. They loved the Grand Floridian (especially since I was working at the GF Monorail station those days)... but I want to have them experience something a little different.

I know my father would love the Yacht Club, being the nautical fanatic that he is... and so would my mother... the whole ambience of that area, plus the close proximity to the World Showcase and the Boardwalk... it sounds so nice...

But... I was just looking at the new Animal Kingdom Lodge, and I think my mother would get such a kick out of seeing the animals from her room.

They're going to be spending a lot of time relaxing at the resort... I know my father likes to read, and my mother likes to sit by the pool. I want to make sure they have plenty to do.

Any opinions? Suggestions on other resorts? On a side note, they probably will have a rental car... they tend to like to explore. :)

Thanks. :)

I think AKL would be the best bet because the scenery and feel are so nice. Especially for them who will be hanging around the resort. You should send them there.

The animal kingdom lodge is definately nice.

But if your dad is the nautical type, and your mom loves the pool, the Y&B C has an awesome pool,( i am not sure about AKL, but im sure its also nice)

My ex-boss, stayed at the GF, and the Cotemporary, and ay the Y & BC,

HE IS REALLY PICKY!!!!! and he loved the yacht and beach club.

Both Really beautiful hotels

GOOD LUCK and let us know

I don't know how long your parents will be visiting, but why not both resorts: AKL & YC. This past New Year's we spent the first half of our stay at the Wilderness Lodge and then the last half at the Boardwalk Inn. We had a blast and got to experience what both resorts had to offer.

Never did the YC, but I've done AKL. My opinion, AKL hands down. I've done the Poly and Contem., and I liked them both, but they don't hold a candle to AKL.

I have not stayed at AKL yet (not until May - can't wait) but I have stayed at the Beach Club a few times. It is probably my favorite Disney hotel so far. You can't really go wrong there. Of course I have heard nothing bad about AKL and think I might end up liking it better.

The only thingI have heard that might make a difference is that supposedly the lighting at AKL is a bit dim. Would this be problem for your father since he likes to read?

Either way I'm sure they will love it.

The lighting is a bit different at AKL. The outside lights at night around the savannahas have a "moon lighting" type of lights, but around the pool and inside the lobby, there are plenty of well lite areas to read.

I took a book out to the pool area to read on many of the nights to read. Sat there by the pool, had drink and read away. Nice, quite, and plenty of lighiting.

Just look out for the sprinklers. They turned on about 11:30-12 Midnight, and I go a bit wet, but no big deal, just moved to a new chair.

I love very dim (not dark) lighting, but very low, dim lighting. That is actually a plus for me. Nightime is a favorite time for me, I can't wait to be out at the pool at night there. AkiraRaptor, what time does the pool close outside, or does it?

any of the deluxe resorts are nice.. maybe you should do the 1/2 and 1/2 thing. it would be a good way of letting both your parents experiance the magic they way they want to... to me... it doesnt matter where I stay, just as long as its on property. :sohappy:

I think the pool is open all the time, but there are set times for a lifeguard. I don't know the lifeguard times, but I never saw one, so they probebly don't run late.

But, many people were in the pools late, even after midnight, but because there was no lifeguard, the slide was closed. I think they only open the slide when a lifeguard is present.

The pool is big, but not deep. No diving I believe. But it has a nice walk in feature. It's like a beach in one area in that it shollows up to the edge, so you can walk in and stop at any depth you want.

Even though I didn't get in, it was a very nice pool.

One night I was out there late and watched a father and his two daugters play for about an hour, and that was well after 11:00 pm.

Have fun!!!:p

I loved the Yacht Club too and I'm sure your parents would really like it, but for something really different and more Disney-ish, I'd pick the Animal Kingdom Lodge, especially since they'll have a car.

Never stayed at AKL, Yacht, or Beach, but ive visted plenty of times, and thet are all very beautiful hotels. My faves tho are Wilderness Lodge (if im in a relaxing mood, with not much planned activity) and Boardwalk (if im in an activity mood).....all disney hotels are extremely nice, and "home-like", but i do agree that the deluxe resorts are extremely exceptional.....

A suite in the Wilderness Lodge is amazing. It has a great view of the fireworks and the magick kingdom. They have their own balcony which has a decent view of a lot things.
I also think that the animla kingodm would be sweet
