December Beach Club question

Hi all,

I'm usually a lurker, but I have a small question. I'm looking to bring the family to the beach club in December. We're tentatively scheduled for Dec 5-12 (We're from PA). I managed to get the 30% promo which was nice, but I have been wondering about other "cheaper" options. We've never done this, but I have been wondering if the DVC rentals were a better way to go. However, i'm not too keen on the advantages/ disadvantages of going through the rentals rather than Disney itself? Also can anyone recommend some rental websites if they feel they are a viable option?

Thanks guys. Appreciate it.

It depends on what you want to get out of it. A DVC rental is really a transaction between you and the owner. The broker websites act as a 3rd party to help arrange everything, and provide a bit of legal recourse via the contract they will have both parties commit to. You could do the same on your own, but most people won't have the legal skills. The owner still controls your reservation. So if you decide to try to add dining, request a certain room type, etc, that has to be done by the owner. You can't make any changes at all. The owner could in theory flake out, sell their contract, cancel your booking etc, but the broker typically covers that in their contract. Check out the details before committing. Renting DVC points ends up with your staying under DVC terms. A DVC stay doesn't have daily mousekeeping unless you pay extra. Thats really the biggest difference between a DVC stay and a non DVC stay. The big advantage is the cost savings. You can end up staying in a deluxe resort for moderate prices. The biggest disadvantage is the fact that you don't have control over the booking. Some people have serious issues with this, others are fine with it.

However, in your case a disadvantage might be the short notice. DVC owners can book at their home resort 11 months out, and other resorts 7 months out. BC is one of the smaller properties at WDW, so the room type you want may already be booked. You would need to ask some of the brokers and see if there is availability or not.

Never used it, but lots of people talk about David's DVC Rentals.

Forgive my bluntness, but if you are planning for Dec. 2012, there is no chance of Beach Club being available for those dates. Early December is an extremely popular time with DVC members and BCV was sold out months ago. If you are considering a DVC rental for Dec. 2013, now is the time to start lining up an owner with BCV points so they can book exactly when the 11 month window opens. Sorry.

Appreciate the responses. Yeah, I figured I was a little too late for this upcoming year, but I have always been intrigued by the DVC rental potential. Obviously, as mentioned above, there is a risk/reward factor to account for. I'm sort of a control freak, so I guess this doesnt sound like the best option for us haha.

I never rented points. If someone said, "Yeah, I personally guarantee that you won't get screwed on this deal. If you do, I'll pay you back with my own money!" Then I'd consider it...if I got it in writing and knew they were good for it.

But I never found that deal, lol. The best thing i found were people saying, "Yeah, trust me" and other people saying, "Well, we think you wont get screwed." I'm a little more cautious with my business dealings than most people and don't enter into those sorts of agreements. Many people do this and it works out for them. A few get screwed.

You can't rent those things from Disney. You can get equally good and better places offsite for much, much less.

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
You can just be a regular paying guest for villas and not rent points. We always just book it ourselves directly with whatever offer is available like the 30% right now and the AP 35% out for this December. There is still Villas available with that rate right now for this Dec at Boardwalk Villas, Saratoga Springs, Wilderness Lodge Villas etc. I just looked they all have 1 bedroom Villas available with the 30% offer right now. We always just pay because its alot easier and Mousekeeping comes everyday unlike if you rent points try only come 1-2 times your whole stay. I like being treated like I would at any normal hotel so we will always just book the Villas with Disney ourselves. It is alot more flexible too like said above if you don't rent points. Renting points to me is just a waste especially if you can just book yourself and get all the regular perks of a paying guest. :)

Sorry I king of misread your post! Lol. Yes it can be cheaper to rent points but personally I think it's too much of a hassle like I said above. In the end it's totally your choice and what you want. :)

Haha yes, I think in the grand scheme of things, as you said better to just go through disney for the hassle free purposes. Plus there are several restaurants that are absolute MUSTS every trip that I cant go without haha.
