This was the first time in a long time that we had visited WDW during the holidays. It was certainly an experience that was cool, but hectic.
Stayed at the Grand Floridian again. Our room situation was rather bad when we got there. (Since Disney stopped trying to accommodate the guests needs). We needed 2 joining rooms that were non smoking (my mom and I are allergic to smoke). The first rooms were smoking rooms. (The hallways had a strong smoke odor and so did the rooms.) We talked to a manager name Danny (great guy btw) and got us in a different room in the building. This one was certainly neglected by housekeeping. We had handicapped accessible rooms next to the elevator. Beds weren't made, Iron w/ board still out, and here's the kicker: food with some unexpected insects on the floor. Talked to Danny again, and he put us in a different building near the GF boat launch. First floor rooms that were somewhat secluded in the building. The sweet aroma in the room was certainly more pleasant to welcome!
Anyway, we knew in advance that the crowds were going to be hectic, but we didn't know how hectic. Seemed like everywhere we turned we saw LSU or Iowa fans . Lines were long like I imagined. The crowds during NYE were hectic at the parks after overhearing conversation about it. I overheard a couple saying Splash at MK had a 3 hour wait! We went to MGM for NYE and it wasn't entirely bad. After NYE, the crowds were lighter.
The particular Christmas things were very nice. The gingerbread house at GF, Mickey's very merry christmas parade, Candlelight Processional w/ Gary Sinise, and the Osborne Lights. It was all great. Went to the Cirque du Soleil NYE performance which was excellent.
Rode almost everything we wanted to ride at least once. Spent most of our time at MK and Epcot. Went to MGM a couple more times, but spent half a day at AK for Kilimanjaro. First time on Stitch and I thought it was okay. Waited 45min - 1 hour; next time i'll take a shorter line. The storyline needs to be strengthened. Had to hit the attractions that aren't doing too well now (WoL, CoP, timekeeper, etc...).
Food was excellent as usual. Had the dinner reservations for the CP at the Coral Reef. Probably the best meal we have had at Disney! We also ate at the following: Garden Grill, 50's prime time, Liberty Tree, Cinderellas, Rainforest, Ohana, Biergarten, 1900 Park Fare.
That's all I can remember right now. I'll probably post more later.
