DDP blues/ split reservations

As of 15 days ago the DDP is no longer able to be added to seperate days of your reservation that exists unless you are resort hopping or add it to the entire stay. Disney said that it was causing problems with their computer reservation system. In essence, it was previously possible to split an existing reservation into multiple reservations and add the DDP to any particular day or group of days. Now you must add the DDP to the entire reservation or resort hop which already breaks your stay into multiple reservations. It may be possible to request that your stay be broken up when making the reservation, but there are other issues with that. We tried to add the Deluxe plan to one nights stay of an existing DVC reservation. Since we decided to add it after having already made the reservation, we were told it can no longer be done this way. We don't mind resort hopping so will continue to do this for now on, but many seem to hate doing it.
We expressed our displeasure with this new rule, especially since there was apparently no announcement about it, but it is what it is.

Can they really stop you from making two reservations to have DDP for different parts of your trip? To have DDP on a few, random days sprinkled throughout your trip like it sounds like the OP is suggesting sounds complicated, but having DDP for a continuous chunk of your trip... I don't see how they could stop you.

For about a year now DVC members could segment reservations and include the dining plans on specific segments of the reservation. For example we are staying at a Tree House Villa that accommodates up to nine people and will have guests for one night. Our intent was to segment the reservation so that we would not have to buy the dinning plan for nine people for the entire stay when we will have only four people every night but one. The change only impacts DVC reservations and is unique to the type of accommodations.

It was a great option; however, there were many reports of major problems with keys and dining credits and frustrated guests and cast members trying to make it work. I suspect the logistics were impossible and Disney just decided to eliminate the segmenting option.
