DCA/Palace of de Arts

I am amazed by the changes DCA is going through. I had no idea. I saw photos that the Golden Dreams Movie is gone and the only thing standing is Palace of de Arts. I know this is where the Little Mermaid Ride is going. I was wondering if they are taking down the Palace of de Arts or using it for the ride. Also, how are they going to retheme Calafornia Screaming to the 1920/30's look and feel?

The Golden Dreams rotunda is staying and will be incorporated into the new Mermaid building:

California Screamin' has received a few changes but major work to re-theme the queue has been delayed until possibly Phase 2 of the expansion. The launch spiel has been given a ''boardwalk barker'' re-theme. The coaster itself was built to look like an early wooden coaster, so it already fits in with the new 20s theme of the pier.

It is all amazing, isn't it?! Totally unprecedented in Disney theme park history to go into an existing theme park and retheme and rework and bulldoze and rebuild huge sections of the operating theme park, while simultaneously expanding the park into 12 previously unused acres of new land (CarsLand).

As amazing as the pictures are, you should see how surreal it all is when you walk through the park now. And more big construction gets underway on January 4th. 2011 will be the really big year for DCA makeover construction. Sponono88 and Nemofinder does a great job here of rounding up the latest news and the best shots of all the latest photo updates for the Disneyland Resort, so just keep checking back here in these DCA threads for the latest news and photos.

And one minor bit of information, as I'm a big fan of the old World's Fairs and Expos, the Golden Dreams rotunda being retained for the Mermaid building is actually modeled after the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. It's modeled after the structure from the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition. I bet you got confused with the nearby de Young Museum, in Golden Gate Park.

The much larger version of the rotunda stands in San Francisco's Presidio park today, not too far from the excellent Walt Disney Family Museum, also in the Presidio.
