Day at the Beach

Just to get away from all the excitement, about 1/2 way through my Disney trip I want to spend one day at the beach.

Any sugestions for a beach MAX 2-3 hours away?

I've been to the Ft. Lauderdale area many times, but I think it's a little too far for a 1 day get-away.

I know Daytona is close by, but I was wondering if there where any other good places? Should I go west instead?

What is your favorite beach?

Thanks,
Jonathan.

well I don't know if you have children or if you are travelling with children. But we went May 25-June 3 and we spent the day at Cocoa Beach...the children 2-15 (five of them) and the adults all had a wonderful time at that beach. We grabbed some food and ate on the beach, went to Ron Jon's Surf Shop was a great time! Wasnt too far to drive either.

No kids... Just my wife and I.

Cocoa beach sounds good... Any sugestions for a restaurant? Nothing too fancy, just a pleasant sit-down place.

Thanks for the tips... :animwink:

We (husband and I) spent a day at Cocoa Beach in April, and also spent a day at Daytona Beach. Cocoa Beach is much quieter, less commercial (relatively speaking!), and prettier. Daytona is loaded with kids and cars. We had lunch at an upstairs beach bar right on the beach...can't remember the name, unfortunately, but it was only a couple of blocks from Ron-Jon's, and right next door to a public beach parking lot. Sorry I can't be more specific!

(a bit off-topic) I just booked Vero Beach for 3 days (along with a normal Disney Trip) is it nice? What is there to do other than swim that is fun?

You can also try Clearwater or Anna Maria Island. The second one is kinda secluded, the water is very clear and there is a nice restaurant that is like a terrace where you can have lunch or dinner and watch the sunset from it. :animwink:

THe pool is really nice, and so is the beach. Disney keeps it really clean, and since it is private, there usually isnt too many people there.

You can easily stay there and not leave for 3 days. they have movies to rent, mini-golf, tennis, basketball, a work out room, and a croquet lawn. (I have only seen people out there once, but it does look fun!)

there are two resteraunts that are really good, though I don't remember the names.

if you ahve a rental car, you can go to the town of vero beach. There is a resteraunt called Mr. Manatee's that is realllllly good. and there is mall and movie theatre, along with smaller shops. and it really is a nice town, also really clean.

enjoy!

:animwink: We love St. Pete's Beach! It's about 1 1/2 hours from Disney (if I remember correctly). We stayed there at the Tradewinds Grand many times and even the Radisson. If you want to go somewhere fabulous for an Italian dinner, go to The Palm Court inside the Tradewinds Resort....you'll flip! The beach is always so nice and clean as well! That would be my first choice! Hope this helps! :animwink:

Or I guess if you don't want to drive, you can go and lay on the beach at like the Polynesian and get the best of both worlds!
