From what i know, the sign was for the Copperfield Magic Underground that was also supposed to open in new york and chicago. It was a combination shop/restraunt idea that he had. However, the plans fell through fo the other locations as well as the Orlando one. Which i believe was supposed to end up at Downtown Disney. That's the best that i know.

I don't know about the location, but that sounds about right. I'm kind of surprised it fell through with Disney, though. Even if it didn't work out in the other locations, Planet Hollywood is proof that WDW is a unique market… Actually, having it be the only one that was ever built would have mad it an even bigger thing… I know that Mr. Copperfield was looking for a new sponsor at that point. Clorox had been giving him around $2 million a year to help cover the costs of his tour and television special and shortly before all that he looking for a new source of funds. Perhaps Disney was going to be that source and things didn't work out on that end… Maybe Disney was going to have something to do with all the restaurants.

It was supposed to be right outside the entrance on the right hand side of the gates. On the same side the boats from Boardwalk, Yacht and Beach club dock. It would have been much like the setup they have now with Rain Forest over at Animal Kingdom.

Which would have made a lot of sense considering that they were only advertising it there. When they first began construction for Fantasmic, I thought that was the building for the restaurant going up….

From what i understood, it was whatever company it is that Copperfield does all his things through, (can't remember the name right now) it wasn't Disney's decision. THey were actually pushing for it, but after New York fell through Copperfield himself were the ones who backed out. Now i hear that there is another magic shop at Downtown Disney.
