Dating WDW Cast Members/Cast Members dating Guests -- General Conversation

An interesting conversation came up between a friend of mine and me last year when we went to Epcot. My friend, Maria, and I needed to get away from the everyday hassles of work and other things that stress us out, so we came here. Anyways, we were having lunch at Englad (Rose & Crown Pub -- EXCELLENT Fish And Chips!) and seeing how I was single at the time, Maria, wanted to "hook" me up with the waitress that was serving us. I looked at Maria and said, "Nah. It wouldn't make any sense for me to come up here (which is a 4 hr drive from where I live in Naples, FL), take this girl out for a night on the town, and then if things got serious between her and I, she'd probably have to go back to England." So, we just dismissed the conversation, and seeing how Maria's a matchmaker (she tries.. she really does!), just to ease her curiosity (not mine as I'm already seriously seeing someone), would I have been allowed to ask that waitress out? What's the policies/rules in place for dating guests? <shrug>

If anyone has any feedback on this -- let me know -- I'd like to put her curiosities to rest as she's starting on me again about the waitress we had. Hmmm..

It would be interesting to find out if there are policies disney put in place that says that Cast members aren't allowed to date guests.

that IS a good question! i never even thought about it! though maybe i should since i've had my eye open for a certain cast member i saw a few years ago. but really, i don't see why they wouldn't allow it...i can see how they'd have a policy about not slipping numbers to each other while a cast member is on duty, but as for generally, a guest and a cast member seeing each other, i think it'd be wrong to keep that from happening. after all, not every cast member can be married to/seeing another cast member, and since everyone else is considered a guest, then there's gotta be a castmember/guest relationship in there somewhere!

Well, I just called my g/f who used to work at MGM Studios a couple of years ago and she told me that there are no set policies in place, at least, as far as she knows, but she did tell me that Disney does "frown" on cast members dating guests. At least, that was what she was told. If anyone works for Disney now, what are those policies? Maybe there aren't any. I'm just trying to put a conversation that was put to rest last year between a friend of mine and I to rest..

There is nothing that says you can't ask your waitress out. It's just like anywhere else--if she was interested and not attached, she would probably go out with you. If she wasn't interested, she wouldn't.

There is probably some kind of "fraternization" policy, but whether a CM would adhere to it is up to them. I know CM's who met people out after they got off work. They didn't make a big deal out of it, they just said "I'll be at so and so at such and such time."

If a CM was blatantly and unwantedly (is that a word?) hitting on a guest, that would definitely be a "no-no". But if the guest asked the CM out or was interested in meeting up later and the CM was agreeable, then I don't see that there would be a problem. Likewise, if a guest was being obnoxious and harrassing a CM , the CM could certainly report the behavior.

I think that's the answer I'm looking for.... thanks!

Wow this is definately the guy to talk to. While i was working on the cruise one guy got fired for making out with a guest. Security cameras caught them. That i think is wrong, the cast member should have known better. There is no written rule stating you cant date a guest, but the handing out of the number is taking you away from your job at hand. I personally met a girl on the disney magic, wrote to her, she moved to florida, we got married, 2 kids later it worked out ok. But i think the difference is i built a relationship outside of the job.

I'm sure it's like that with any company you work for. When I worked for TGI Fridays as a corporate trainer, I wasn't allowed to date the waitresses because in the management world there, it is against company policy to fratenize with your co-workers. If I was caught, then they'd have to relocate me to another store (and the closest store to Naples was the one in Fort Myers which is 35 mins north of me). So, I just stayed away from the dating your co-workers thing.

Now, when I quit Fridays, I wound up hooking up with one of the waitresses there. We got serious and then when I found out she was wanted for possession of marijuana, I got the hell out of there. Smart move on my part, I think. :)

If you're "seriously seeing someone" why are you still curious about the waitress in "England" ? Sounds to me like you've definitely got the hots for her or otherwise you'd have told your friend Maria not to bother. :D

I really doubt Disney would keep CMs from dating.

Like any job, it is a no no to be chatting all day with someone you know who comes into your work place. IOW, it is ok to date anyone at WDW as long as you won't be around them 24/7 talking, visiting, etc. I have seen guests talk to CMs who obviously know them all the time. I am guessing Disney doesn't want that, but a couple moments of conversation would be ok. It wouldnt be ok if that person came into WDW every day and started getting in the CMs way of doing their job right.

Plus, Disney is such a large place, it woudl be ok anyweays since a couple would more often than not be working in the same area, little the same park/resort. And I am sure Disney would know who is going with who, so as not to let them work together.

That's what I'm saying.... I told her to not even bother. But, I think the answers on this forum have pretty much silenced her. Thank you!

I am not his Maria!!

I was never told who to date while I was in Orlando working at Epcot. I never went out with a guest though... I was too coward. I only dated CM´s cause they were easy to spot or track if something bad happened. I always made sure I told my roommates where I was going out to and who with and tried to make them meet the guy. I think it would depend mostly on the guts of the CM to trust you and agree to go out with you. ;)

Of course, I found someone very special soon enough after I arrived, and decided I didn´t want to go out with anyone else, so.... *shrugs* :animwink:

I never said you were MY MARIA. :)

And we're happy for you. Now, lets move on to some of the more "meat and potatoes" behind Disney so we can "ruin the magic" for anyone wanting to visit ;)

  :hammer:

LOL! I never said you did! I was joking!

.....but I want to add... hehe... you (or any other american) probably have more chances dating a girl from Morocco than a girl from any other of the countries in WSC. (Mexico could be second... but mexicans tend to date the norwegians too). If you ask a moroccan girl out, 90% of the times, they will agree! Trust me on that one... :animwink:

I believe the policy is that Disney frowns upon it, but they are allowed to, as long as its not on company time.

But I don't know. I'm not a cast member.

Maybe I'll ask that waitress from "England" out for my younger bro. He's been wanting to hook up with someone from the World Showcase anyways ;)

Then again -- he's a "walking hormone" :)

Kids will be kids :)
