DAS Pre-Registration experience

I thought I would share our experience with pre-registration for our upcoming trip!

Last Saturday we logged on to MDE and chatted to request pre-registration for DAS at 9am. Around 2:30pm a CM came on and chatted to see if we qualified, basically asking when our travel dates were. Once we got through that, we were transferred to the queue for video chat. Finally, around 4:30pm we were connected with a CM via video chat. Very easy, pleasant experience. The CM was very helpful, quickly qualifying us for DAS. Remember that whomever in your family you are signing up for DAS must be present, as they briefly talk to them (just to say hello, nothing too personal) and take their picture. Once the video chat ended, we were transferred to chat with another CM to set up advance selections for up to 2 attractions per day of our trip. Keep in mind, those attractions with individual lightning lanes (Flight of Passage, Rise of the Resistance, etc) do not qualify for these pre-selections. We got most of the selections we wanted, but some attractions were not available (Slinky Dog Dash, Soarin come to mind).

So, the pre-registration took a total of over 7.5 hours. So when you go to set it up, make sure you are able to be close to your computer for quite a bit of time. The website also kept kicking us off and we had to re-sign in every 30 minutes or so. We did not lose our place in line, and the CM stated this is a known problem others are having. Have backup attractions in case the ones you want are filled up. The CM reminded us that once we enter a park, we will be able to make another DAS selection, the 2 you set up prior are "bonus". You can set up DAS at guest relations the day of park visit, but you would not be able to have the 2 bonus attraction selections. Once you qualify for DAS, it is good for 60 days, and it is good to up to 6 members of your party. If you have more, you can try to add them the day of your park visit, according to the CM.

Besides the time it took, this was a very pleasant experience. If you have someone in your party or family that you believe would qualify for this, I highly recommend you do it!

Really??? 71/2 hours ??? I find that ridiculous that it will take that much time to register. It takes 5 minutes at city hall to get registered and set up for the DAS. I’m glad you got it arranged for your trip but I wouldn’t find it worth waiting around for that much time and getting kicked off multiple times. I’d gladly give up bonus attractions for wasting my time and frustration of the inconvenience. For a simple process to go through that much???? Another Disney fail in making a simple process complicated.
We utilize the DAS on every trip and it is worth getting set up… but to go through that much… ridiculous.

There have been many reports of these ridiculous waits. How is someone who has a disability meant to be available constantly for 6 hrs or longer? They would have to take a day off school / work and even then, when the phone is actually answered, they may be otherwise indisposed. Like having a stoma bag changed, having a seizure or even eating a meal. Never mind any international guest who needs one, will Disney foot the bill for the phone call?

This process is clearly either designed by an idiot who has no concept of what living with a disability actually entails or by someone whose main purpose is to deter would-be applicants from doing so.

Most people I know who have had a DAS pass in the past have given up on this ridiculous process and just done it in person.

My DW gets frustrated by people all the time and says she wishes they could sit in her W/C for just one day and experience what she has to deal with. ( Many are those in the health care field who should know better!!) Maybe then they would better understand the situations she faces and be more accommodating.

Just to clarify, in addition to your 2 advanced attractions book, you can grab an additional 3rd when you enter the park?

Yes, when you pre-register prior to your trip the 2 advanced attractions you select are "bonus". Then when you enter the park you can make another selection. Those in park ones you can only carry one at a time according to the CM. This will be our first experience with it in the parks this weekend.

So what qualified you for das specifically? They said mobility is not an issue - but genie plus. They are taking all customer services away and not reducing prices.

My experience attempting to register my son for DAS today:

Logged in to request chat at about 2:30p CST complete with chat window popup. For the first 4 hours or so, I would periodically get logged out and had to refresh, then log back in. Once I did, the chat window reopened and continued to show the "test" message I sent around 3:30p. Once I passed the 5 hour mark or so, the chat window disappeared and what had previously been the "request live video chat" button was spinning blue circle. I tried refreshing, logging out and back in, restarting, rebooting, clearing cache and cookies (repeatedly), all to no avail. I could never get the chat window back, so I sat on that screen for the last two hours hoping it would eventually pop back up. At 9:10 CST I refreshed once more, knowing it was outside business hours, and now the button to request chat is grayed out.

Can anyone give insight into what might have gone wrong or what I should have done differently? We are leaving on June 4th, so I have time to get this done, but along the lines of what @nickys said, I work full time, so my opportunities are somewhat limited for when I can set aside hours on end hoping this will work.

TIA!

I pre-registered on Sunday. I was done with the video call by 7:15 am and had my advance DAS selections done by 7:45am for 10 days of my 15 night stay in early June. I was surprised that it went so quickly because in December, I had to wait an hour for the video call. I think I got lucky because it was Mother's Day last Sunday.

My FIL registered for DAS yesterday. He was online around 7:30am and when I got home from work (at 4:30pm) , he was still online! He said he was registered by around 10:30am or so. But was still doing the pre selection stuff. He too said it kicked him out and he had to relog in several times. I looked back at his chat history at it appeared he got disconnected about 2 hours prior to that, but he didn't know, it was just sitting there, the last thing the CM member said was "let me check". I typed "are you still there?" and it reverted him back to a link to make the advanced reservations. By that point he gave up and said he would just try to get a couple more when they got to each park next week. I will let him know that the ones he has currently are "bonus" and he can make one as soon as they get to each park. But it is a shame the frustration and time involved.
