Dark Horse to Produce Avatar Comic Books

Saw this on Entertainment Weekly:

At today’s New York Comic Con panel, Dark Horse Comics officially announced an upcoming series that will be based on James Cameron’s Avatar franchise.

Does it seem odd that Avatar isn't being produced by Marvel/Disney, or is that just the way business works? Seems like James Cameron has his fingers in several pies.

Not really odd at all. Just because he has one licensing deal with Disney for the theme parks doesn't mean he's going to do everything with them. There is no indication that Disney is going to distribute the Avatar sequels either.

I'm not privy on the business aspect of things. I hadn't thought about FOX distributing the sequels. I just figured that with all the Disney synergy, they'd want to cross promote Avatar-land with comic books "in house". Thanks for the response!
