Dalmatians Debut Across the Pond
(Video Premiere News) -- For the first time in Disney video history, the studio will release one of its major video premiere sequels to a classic Disney animated movie overseas several months prior to its debut in the US. 101 Dalmatians 2: Patch's London Adventure, featuring music by 2000 Video Premiere Award winner Richard Gibbs and the voices of 2000 Video Premiere Award nominee Jason Alexander and Barry Bostwick, Martin Short and Jodi Benson, will debut in most European countries in November and in Australia in Decem-ber, according to sources. It's expected to be released in the US in the same February slot the studio has used for annual video premiere releases such as this year's Cinderella II: Dreams Come True, likely preceding the studio's live action video premiere movie Inspector Gadget 2 in March. Ironically, despite the English setting of the movie and an original song called "Try Again" by Will Young, the 23-year-old winner of the British reality TV show Pop Idol, England is one of only two countries in Europe that will also have to wait three months for the premiere, according to a Disney spokesman for international markets. Italy is the other. The staggered re-lease schedule was not a strategic move by Disney, but rather a result of the studio's decision to stick to its successful strategy of the past couple of years of releasing a summer US theatrical title in December as it did successfully last year with the surprise summer theatrical hit The Princess Diaries.
